North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr dumped his stocks because of the insider information he was presented with.  If an ordinary citizen had done this it would have been called "insider trading" and the person would face fines, penalties, and/or jail time.  Georgia Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler did the same.  These Senators should have to resign and face penalties or the same judgment that ordinary citizens, that they represent, would have had to face if they did the same.

Yes, it's understandable that someone would want to protect their savings and investments but when you hold a position or job that provides you with insider information then you should not be allowed to profit from that position and information.  Sadly many, if not most, politicians do get very wealthy from doing just that whether they are Democrat or Republican.  They are in positions of power and influence that allow them to receive donations from very wealthy people that in turn they can assist and help.  That is one reason you see people spending tons of money to run for a job that actually doesn't pay that much for where you have to live to work the job.

These people are disgusting and should face some penalty for what they do or did just the same as the people who are guilty of hoarding for profit during times of disaster, as we are in now, like those two brothers in Chattanooga who purchased all the hand sanitizer and wipes that they could find and then sold them for upward to 20 or more times what they paid.

They got caught at the beginning of their little get rich plan and now they're in trouble for price gouging and had to donate most of their haul and the rest was taken to use against them as evidence.

I don't think Republicans have it in them to hold these Congresspersons accountable. We'll see.

When it comes to things like this and other profit schemes all political differences go out the window.  They may disagree on policy but one thing that unites them is that they all are guilty of benefiting from their positions and to actually prosecute their fellow politicians would be to condemn their own selves.  I believe there are so many benefits they have at their disposal that the public and average citizen cannot conceive of them.  Just look at the number of millionaires and multi-millionaires there are in Congress and how many of them that go in not having that much money only to after a few years having a net worth that no average citizen could ever match.

It would be nice to think that these people go into government for serving the people but I fully believe that most go into it for their own benefit.
