Cheering?  What program did you watch? I watched Fox from 9am this morning and saw no cheering.

Old dawg has to adjust  the antennae on his tin foil hat, again.  He's getting reception from Cloud Cuckooland, again, -- the little voices in his head.

Righties, go ahead and praise a traitor.  He is a high school drop out and a military reject.  A well connected contractor hired him, got him a top security clearance and paid him $122,000 per year.If the contractor paid him $122,000 per year, how much did the contractor charge the government for him?  How much do these contractors add to the national debt?  I have saw some people praising him.  Don't try to deny it.  Some people, no matter what, will be against anything that the lefties are for or do.

jtdavis,

Haven't praised him, in fact, condemn the secrets he leaked about operations against China and his route of escape.  However, he did expose that the NSA has far exceeded what was implied in the Patriot act.  A surveillance state, we do not need.

The argument for using contractor's is that while they are more costly short term, the long term cost is less.  Civil service types are hard to fire, even when programs end.  And, the government is stuck with their retirement costs for the rest of their lives.  With changes in federal retirement, this may no longer be the case.  New study is probably required to determine the least costly method.

jtd,

I'm not speaking of dismissing personnel for bad behavior, but because the program they've worked on went away.  For DoD, for instance, if a program ends, civil service personnel aren't just dismissed, they must go thru an elaborate Reduction In Force process identifying who has seniority for what specialty.  Then, do a bump and retreat procedure with other DoD personnel in the area, or expanded area.  That gets quite expensive.  For activities that will be around for decades, government employees are probably less expensive.  For activities that are time limited, contract personnel will be less expensive.
