I think a good location would be on Florence Blvd across or beside the East Point shopping center that has The Wood Floor Store. Maybe a couple nice eating places and I'd love some place other than Kirklands over by Targett. I wish we had something like Ikea around here. I think the location across from or beside East Point is great. Its seem in the middle of everything now that Florence is growing out more that way.

Panera Bread would be awesome, too.

Y'all pretty much completed the mental list I was making before I finished reading through the thread. Basically, it's everything I loved from living in Tuscaloosa.

Seriously, I love the mix of retail there and most of what is there would probably work well in the Shoals (given some flexibility).

Geddon, if you like Moe's you would probably like Qdoba. Go here and take a look... Link Next time you are down for game day stop by. It's across from Buffalo Phil's and across from the new Publix on the strip.

I find it hard to believe that the Florence/Shoals area could (or would) not support at least some of these type places given the amount of chain restaurants already there and the dollars people already spend in the region on groceries and dining out. I would love to see a Panera Bread within walking distance of UNA for the students along with a Publix development kind of like at UA.

It would really make sense...Florence would get its downtown grocery and UNA kids could have somewhere to get a steak and a six-pack on the weekend or for a get together with friends during the week.

There seems to be such a lack of vision and it amazes me. I never really noticed it until I moved away. I may have to just do it myself in a few years.

If it could be located within walking distance of UNA, a small bookstore/newstand would be great. Something lik Anderson's Bookland used to be before it closed.

I would love to see a good book store that has a good size used book section also...most of the time just a used book store doesn't make it, but something that has a mix of new and used would be nice.(especially if they have someone that is into really OLD books and not just paperbacks)

There is a small one in downtown Florence on Tuscaloosa Street called The Book Shoppe. The lady who owns it is very nice. They have a pretty good local author selection, too. I picked up a couple of Bill McDonald's books there.
LOVE Panera Bread. Go there several times a month for breakfast - asiago cheese bagel (double-toasted) with sun-tried tomato cream cheese. Yummy! Now if only it had the nutritional content of broccoli...... Smiler

I think a Panera Bread would do very well in the Shoals as would a Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. And I just can't understand why there aren't any good grocery stores there. Where do you guys shop for groceries? I guess I'm spoiled by Publix and Whole Foods. If I could just get around this town without the gridlock, living here would be pretty good.
