Troopers can't be everywhere at once. What if you were about to be run over by someone & all it took was your horn to alert them to notice you? You shouldn't be so quick to judge our trooper's, they are looking out for the safety of everyone, no matter what it might be. In some instance's, their safety is at risk.

You're kidding me, right? Please give the troopers a break for "doing their job". Did that particular trooper write that law? It was placed on the books, I bet, for a pretty good reason.
What if the 17 year old girl was traveling across O'Neal Bridge. And let's say said girl was driving next to a semi, in his blind spot. Now let's say, Mr. Semi turns on his turn- signal to merge into occupied lane. Well, girl toots horn but it doesn't work. Truck starts to merge but traffic is approaching fast from behind 17(not alot of experience driving) year old. What to do? There is two possible endings here. Truck hits girl and, A. Pushes car off of bridge into river below and trucker gets accused of manslaughter, wreckless driving, blah blah blah. B. Girl's horn works, blows at the driver, he then sees girl driving in his blind spot, stays in his lane and accident is averted and everyone gets to live another day to verbally assault an officer of the law who does his job well.
Now, I mean no disrespect here. But please do not blame law enforcement for something that was the 17 year old girl's responsibility. Have a great day.
Ok, look, believe it or not, I am in the legal business. I have had the furtune, oops, misfortune of living away from here for 21 years and have just moved back.. I have lived in other countries and many other states and cities. This area is still terribly immature when it comes to what is important... I have also had some very recent displeasure as a result of the treatment that my sister had during a terrible auto accident here shortly after moving back here. It was negligent at BEST....

What does that have to do with the way you feel about Law enforcement here?

Maybe you should move away again if you are so dis-pleased with our area.

What an idiotic thng to say. You are so happy with this backasswards state that you'd be happy to leave things just like they are?

First off, it's "bassackwards". Second, "...be happy to leave things just like they are?". Now, by that, do you mean the law enforcement upholding the law and doing their job? Third, if I am not mistaken, the incident that happened in Sheffield at Riverfront Park, was in Sheffield Police Dept.'s jurisdiction, not the Alabama State Troopers'. Now, the topic at hand, outside of the original was a state trooper pulled some 17 year old over, etc. Then blame was transfered to the troopers for an incident that didn't concern their dept. Now, if we want to talk about other things being backwards in this state that is fine. I might agree with you on some things. But that is why we get to vote. But to get upset because of something that ultimately is the driver's fault and then pass the buck to the trooper is not right. Law is law. Except when it comes to immigration.
The one question that keeps popping into my feeble nieve mind here is...where the heck are the parents of these children jumping off of these bluffs. If my memory serves me correctly, the current there is deemed "dangerous and unpredictable" by maritime police and cannot be swam in safely. Why would any parent allow their children to jump off of these bluffs anyway? No matter how hot it is, there is always a hosepipe nearby....

It is not a proper place to be jumping off of. There are many large rock down there, and with TVA changing the water level, you cannot know how deep it is each time you are there.

What is down there?
The first time I was there I found a brand new bicycle, my daughter rode it for a long time. There is a couple of cars down there, all kinds of trash. My buddy Johnny always spears a large catfish when he goes.
The rocks make it too dangerous to be jumping from the bluff though, especially when the water level is unpredictable.

1st time I jumped I was 15, I can assure you my parents had no clue we had sneaked over there and jumped, any of the times I went. I'm older and wiser now and wouldn't jump off that thing for money.
Any time I was ever close to the bluffs, I can assure you that my parents did not have a clue where I was. I was usually at a friend's house and we would "go on a walk," ending up at what we used to call Whippoorwill? I don't know what they call it these days, but that's what we called it then. Kids have a tendency to sneak off and do things their parents would be horrified to know. We were often close to the bluffs, but we were kids and therefore felt invincible. Luckily, I'm alive to tell this story, but I believe if I had a child, I would keep it tied to me with a leash so I wouldn't have to "pay for my raising."

LOL, I suppose the parents are in the same places mine were some 40 yrs ago when we all used to jump at different bluffs on the river. NEWS FLSAH! Teens are not the most honest of humans.we always had a good tale to give our parents as to where we were going to be.
I used to have some great pictures of my ex-husband jumping off of Whippoorwill. In one really cool one he is doing a swan dive. This was 15 years ago, and back when we were dating. Now we are older, got married, had a child, and got divorced. I guess the time is fast approaching when we'll have to figure out how to keep our daughter away from dangerous things like that!

For the most part when I did things that I didn't think my parents would approve of I made sure they were not around.
I have one child and many 'foster' kids. They are all mine. I love them. I tried to teach them responsibility and safety. Maybe not all, but many of them have come to me since they have gotten older and talked about the times that they were there...jumping off those bluffs.

I don't think that they look at it as dangerous. I think that they look at it as 'fun'.
It goes back to the age. They truly don't think that anything bad is going to happen to them. In their immature judgement, they think that they know how to stay safe. It is only when they get into something over their heads, that their thinking clears a little. That is why they have parents. We are supposed to do the best we can, and pray day and night that they get grown. Fortunately, most of them do. Many with some really scarey stories to tell their parents...

I am thankful that mine lived through their many adventures, even thankful that I didn't always know what they were doing. Ignorance is bliss. I am concerned for these two and their families. Has anyone heard anything more as to how they are doing?
