Do any of y'all know if they ever plan to reopen railroad avenue?

Last week I was coming from the Patton Island Bridge area trying to get to Forest Hills. The new annex is not open and you can't cut through Railroad avenue either. So, I came up Veterans and cut through Patton over to Darby up to Rickwood (trying to get over to Chisolm). Rickwood was closed, so I went down to Mars Hill. It was closed and so was the next cut through road. I had to go all the way down Helton onto Cox Creek then left to get to Chisolm. Whew!

Crusty, there are lots of cities/contractors who opt to pave at night. Less traffic, safer for their workers, cooler, and they don't get as many complaints for folks like me when they take 2 weeks to complete a 1/2 mile road.

If they did it at night, the cost would be substantially higher, and you would be complaining about the noise.
I'm sure everyone else has noticed that HollyHunter Fan and FDR always blame the mayor. I believe the paving project is bid out. Apparenty APAC was the low bidder. Isn't that what the bidding process is for so politics won't be involved in selecting the bidder. I also believe that Bill Batson is responsible for over-seeing this project, not the mayor. Does this person(s) ever have anything positive to say about the city.
It sure looks like this "scp" person always alibis for the "mayor" and runs cover for him. He seems to care more about the politics of trying to re-elect the current "mayor" than he does saying and doing what's right for the City of Florence. I see a pattern. Wonder if they have a deal or something?

It's a shame because there are so many great people in Florence that better leadership would be a blessing to them. Instead they get misled and taken for a ride by mis-leaders, when they need and want real-leaders.

Look how often so-called leaders have let us down. We are a good city that would be great with honest leaders and elected officials who serve us and not themselves. One day soon perhaps we will get it right.
HHF -- scp just probably has the same agenda that you do...I wouldn't start casting stones ...unless you are going to start discussing the multiple personalities that root for Carrier on here -- I'd say scp is sharper than most -- it didn't take long for him to see the anti everything but Carrier in your posts and FDRs. Hey, but at least we know where you stand I guess. Razzer

Yes, our so-called leaders have let us down HHF but scp is correct that the project is bid out and low man wins -- he is also correct as to who is overseeing the project...if this was political it wasn't just the mayor getting all the credits -- this project affected many districts including Mr. Carriers so I'm sure they will all be saying "look what we did to make your neighborhood better while we were in office". So, they all should get credit and hits on this one.

As for the paving issues -- I think that they should have been able to post in the paper and on the news what road they would be working on and a better designated detour route should have been initiated. As it was, the workers, who are most likely not from here -- had no idea the circles they were sending everyone in. Also, their trucks were not always "traffic friendly" meanng they would block intersections that were fully complete with no person redirecting the traffic and you end of behind them stuck becasue you don't know whether you can go around them or not. It was just very confusing. I noticed though they have most of the roads they started except Rickwood near Woodmont -- finished...
I don't know what HHF will say but it strikes me that if things went well "scp" will be the first giving the "mayor" credit for it, but if it don't he alibis for him.

So it is good to know now that since no blame or responsibility can go to the "mayor", no credit or authority can either? Or should.

Good to know. That is helpful.
Yes that's right. I see the meetings on TV and one particular councilman who probably knows "scp" very well, if you know what I mean, always says the Department Heads are doing good so the Mayor should get credit for it because they report to him. Then as soon as something goes hay-wire all of a sudden it's not the Mayor's fault, blame, or responsibility at all. That is double-talk and duplicitous nonsense. In other words, par for this course.

Guess to whom the City Engineer reports? The Mayor!
Falcon makes a good point. If the top-dog isn't responsible who is? In a City if the Mayor is not responsible who is? He wants credit for things he says that are going well. He hides under the desk on thing going hay-wire. He's got so many people alibing for him and propping him up it's pitiful. A man with a back-bone doesn't need all that. That man can stand on his own.
