I am looking to purchase a wooden rocking chair for my home. I would prefer a hand crafted rocker with a wooden slat seat and back. I do not want one of those from Cracker Barrel. Nothing againt them, but I've sene better quality in rockers elsewhere. Most of the local furniture stores do not carry them, but can order one. I just liked to try it out before I purchase.

Any suggestions?

a. The Rocking Chair restaurant on Hwy.72 in Tuscumbia has some that are a little better quality than those at Cracker Barrel or the mass merchandisers.

b. For the zillionth time, the community north of Lawrenceburg are NOT Mennonites; they are Schwartzentruber Amish! Both would be offended at the misidentification.
We travel to Lawrenceburg about once a week during picking time to buy veggies and have seen lots of rockers. All you have to do is drive around and you will see signs that say "furniture" and you have found what you are looking for. My mom bought our porch funiture up there and we love it. It is very well made!

is a Yoder anything like a Schwartzentruber?

from wikipedia:
Swartzentruber is a Mennonite and Amish surname of Swiss origin, coming from the Trub river valley, located approximately midway between Bern and Lucerne. It has been thought to mean "seller of black grapes".[2] Other English spellings of the name include Swartzendruber, Schwartzendruber, Schwarzentruber, and Schwarztrauber.
Thanks for all of the responses. I will be in the Elgin area wither tomorrow or Wednesday and in Tennessee this weekend, pending work related issues prevent me.

In case some of you are wondering, no the rocking chair is not for my wife's up coming 50th birthday, but for me/us to enjoy. Every since I moved the computer out of the living room, we have an empty space that needs to be filled. This makes for a perfect time for buying a rocker.

Maybe one of these days, I will have a grandchild that I can hold in my lap while I enjoy the rocker. But with the way things are going with "future daughter and son in law prospects", I may have a long wait. LOL

I’ve compared my daughter’s selection of boyfriends to snow. Both make a grand appearance and slowly fade away.
