Best, the Florence Times and Tri-Cities Daily had the same publishers. They had much the same news. The Tri-Cities Daily had more news from Colbert County. It was sold in Colbert, while the Florence Times was sold, surprise, in Lauderdale. If you lived in Colbert County at that time, you knew the news you would read in the Tri-Cities Daily was about Florence, Sheffield, & Tuscumbia.

Get as snarky as you want to get. I never denied history. Last time because it's looking like you just want to argue. I told you why I considered the cities of MS, Sheffield and Tuscumbia the Tri-Cities. You have the video showing that is exactly what they were and still are called. THEY are the ones I heard called that all my life, that is how they are still referred to, so if you still have a problem you can contact the mayors and have it out  with them.

You got Mr. Drucker's telephone number?

Crusty, this explains why I always considered Tuscumbia, Muscle Shoals, and Sheffield the Tri-Cities while growing up, and still do.  So if I'm wrong, so are a lot of people.

Hi Jennifer,

This video is not of them celebrating the Tri-Cities.   For some reason they are marking the POINT where the three cities of Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals all touch.  It is much like the Four Corner states of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona have a Four Corners POINT where they all touch.

Yes, Muscle Shoals was incorporated long ago -- but, through the 1940s and 1950s, it lay dormant as a city.  At that time, which I realize was before you were born, Muscle Shoals was a name only, an area adjacent to Sheffield and Tuscumbia.  It really wasn't until FAME and the music scene caught fire that Muscle Shoals blossomed.

This is taking nothing from Muscle Shoals.  It just was not part of the Tri-Cities when there was a Tri-Cities.  But, Muscle Shoals defines the area now.   If I am speaking to someone not familiar with North Alabama, I will say Muscle Shoals instead of Sheffield.

By the same token, when I used to travel a lot and was in a large city such as New York -- if someone asked where I was from -- even though I was from Van Nuys, Orange, etc. -- I would say I was from Los Angeles.  People knew Los Angeles; not many knew Van Nuys.   So, to a stranger, I may say I am from Muscle Shoals -- but, for someone in the Shoals, I proudly tell folks I was born in Tuscumbia and grew up in Sheffield -- Go Dawgs!

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

I'm pretty sure I saw him the other day over there in Hooterville.

Maybe you did after all. He is alive-96 years old, I'd have guessed much older. I guess the reports of his death were greatly exaggerated.
