Thought I would share this letter that went out to our mailing list of Pillar of Fire's loyal friends and faithful supporters:

****************************************************************

Pillar of Fire recently received word that our production of SHADOW AND SUBSTANCE: THE 'TWILIGHT ZONE' TALES OF GEORGE CLAYTON JOHNSON -- presented by Pillar of Fire and the Tennessee Valley Art Association's Center Stage Theatre Series in October 2009 -- has been nominated for Best Fan Event in the nationwide Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.

The eighth annual awards honor films, television programs, books, magazines, art, writing, research, scholarship and special events related to the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. The awards are coordinated each year by David Colton (Page 1 Editor of USA Today) and sponsored by the Classic Horror Film Board, a web-based gathering spot and discussion center for writers, directors, producers, editors, publishers, historians and enthusiasts associated with those genres.

Previous Rondo winners include everyone from our co-founder, Ray Bradbury, and his lifelong friends Ray Harryhausen and Forrest J Ackerman to filmmakers Roger Corman and Peter Jackson, makeup maestro Rick Baker and film historian William K. Everson.

I was honored to receive an Honorable Mention in the Best Magazine Article category in 2008 for my profile of classic KING KONG heroine Fay Wray (her final full-length interview), published in MONDO CULT magazine. In the Best Fan Event category, our ALFRED HITCH**** HOUR-themed reunion of participants in the classic Bradbury-based episode "The Jar" (presented by Pillar of Fire and UNA Distinguished Events in October 2008) earned a 2009 Rondo nomination.

Counting my solo writing honor, the Rondo recognition for our TWILIGHT ZONE plays (presented in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Rod Serling's landmark television series) marks our third consecutive nomination in these highly regarded genre awards.

Sadly, we're in the same competition this year with the stellar, spectacular and supremely moving American Cinematheque memorial tribute to one of Pillar of Fire’s chief inspirations, our beloved friend Forrest J Ackerman, presented at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles in March 2009. In other words, we couldn’t be in better company.

Vote your pleasure and preference, but please vote. If the Forry tribute wins (as it certainly should -- and our TWILIGHT ZONE collaborator George Clayton Johnson heartily agrees), we could still receive an Honorable Mention or recognition as a runner-up.

So even if you vote for the Forry tribute as your first choice in the Best Fan Event category, please consider listing our production of SHADOW AND SUBSTANCE: THE 'TWILIGHT ZONE' TALES OF GEORGE CLAYTON JOHNSON as at least a second choice for Best Fan Event. Nothing would thrill us more than to finish in a "runner-up" position behind "Uncle Forry."

A link to the Rondo site is pasted below, and our the official TWILIGHT ZONE poster (created by our friend and official Pillar of Fire artist George Chastain) is attached to this e-mail. Please share this e-mail and information with your friends, particularly via e-mail, Facebook and MySpace. Bear in mind that you don't have to cast a vote in every Rondo category, but please vote in every category where you feel you can comfortably vote your conscience:

The deadline for voting is midnight April 3.

If you'd like to see a gallery of photos from George's visit to Alabama to attend the performances, you can access the album through my Facebook profile. Here's the link to the gallery:

Congratulations to everyone who helped make our unforgettable journey into the Twilight Zone and the wondrous imagination of George Clayton Johnson such an exciting and rewarding experience.

Thank you for your continued support,

Terry and Anita Pace and Pillar of Fire
