I blame them for the McCain candidacy. I don't know if Mitt would have won but I know he wouldn't be turning America into a third would country like Obama is.

Christ actually gave us another Commandment:

John 13:34 I am giving you a new commandment to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.

That one really irritates the Evangelicals and Fundies. It really sucks the fun out of condemnation.
I'm afraid the damage Roy Moore will do for the state attracting new business is beyond belief. I lived in Ohio during his heyday and I can tell you he is the source of many jokes about Alabama. Right now the Shoals area, and really all of Alabama, doesn't need to turn business away. But then again, Alabama isn't famous for its governor selections. The widest gubernatorial publicity we've gotten is the stand in the schoolhouse door and that isn't exactly publicity I'm proud of. But it did make a funny scene for Forrest Gump.

One must never underestimate the gullibility of the voter. We collectively have very short memories. If he tones down his fundy-rhetoric and emits a few catchy sound bytes, he can and will be our govnah.

He has the full powah of the Alabama Christian Coalition behind them which wields far too much power despite being fractured a couple if years ago.

The nightmare of a Roy Moore theocratic govnahship will keep me away for the next year and a half.

Well the Evangelicals and Fundies don't teach "Christianity," they teach "Paulism." They are really afraid of the words of Christ, (i.e., "Love one another as I have loved you,"), they work real hard to find something in The Acts or beyond to prove how Christ's word "Love" really means "Hate."

And Christ did away with the Mosaic Law and the Old Testament law, except that part of Leviticus that they can use to justify their homophobia.

That's my problem with most Protestant churches. I consider myself a "Christian," not a "Paulist," which is what most of them are.

No such thing as "homophobia". That phobia is not recognized by any physchiatric association. It's a word made up by the gay community to denegrate anyone who does not believe their lifestyle is acceptable for themselves.

Kinda funny how meanie and the rest have no problem showing disdain for fundies and evangelicals while speaking of love from the other side of their mouths.

It's the sin we hate, not the person sinning. If you enjoy a sinnful lifestyle, then by all means, have at it. Just don't force us to accept it and we'll get along fine.

This is NOT a theocracy. No one is forcing you or anyone else to "accept" anything. It really does not matter one way or the other how you feel about any individual American's pursuit of happiness and liberty. You are not compelled to have gay friends, patronize restaurants with gay employees, or businesses owned by gay people. You are no forced to participate in gay marriage, commitment ceremonies, or any other aspect of their lives. What you can't do is prevent them from living THEIR lives as they see fit. There are lots of sins we don't like, but we do not restrict rights based on an individuals life decisions. If we did that, NO ONE would have rights. Being gay is not illegal. The U.S. Supreme Court struck down all such laws in Lawrence v. Texas in 2003. At that time only 15 states still held such laws on the books and few cases had been prosecuted over the last 20 years. As the old song goes: "You don't have to live next to me, but give me my liberty....." You are perfectly within your rights to feel any way you wish about any number of issues, and you can fight the expansion of individual rights till the cows come home. That does not mean you will prevail.

As for the Fundie/Evangelicals - well, I accept them as part of the Body of Christ, and as fellow Christians. I do not, however, agree with them on their social agenda. I tend to be more Libertarian in my view of social issues and resent the intrusive nature of the Fundie/Evangelical's political activism.
Your wrong meanie - Look at what happened to Miss California when she took a stand for traditional marriage. Look at how the left is trying to slowly change laws to limit what I can say about homosexuality. Look at how children are being indoctrinated at school to believe homosexuality is a natural and just lifestyle. Yes it does affect me and my family and future generations that come from me!

You have a laundry list of things I can do to avoid homosexuals. What does believing homosexuality is a sin have anything to do with me interacting with homosexuals. You've got it in your head that we are afraid of gays and run for cover whenever we see one. You are wrong again and again and again. If a gay asks me my thoughts on their lifestyle, I tell them I don't agree with it because of my faith. I don't shun, beat, terrorize or trash talk them on twitter.

Simply look at how the gay community reacted to Miss California for speaking her mind and it becomes clear who is just and who is just wrong.

Pure fundamentalist genius.

If you believe what I have said is fundie fodder, then prove me wrong.

The word homophobe is hate speech and is further proof how intolerant the gay community is.

Miss California spoke her mind. No one prevented her from doing so, and she is still doing it. That is her right. People are allowed to disagree with her - vehemently. I think if Miss California had just let it go it would have faded into the horizon. Instead she became a spokesperson for NOM and appeared on Fox, GMA and continued to advocate her position. Once you place yourself in the middle of such an issue, people are well within their rights to disagree. Sorry.

I don't buy into the hysterical propaganda about teaching tolerance in schools. Homosexuality is part of society and has been since the beginning of time. Gay people start out as gay children. Sexuality is not established by choice, but has been established to be genetic and conditional/environmental. Even the "ex-gay" movement accepts that fact, as did Jerry Falwell among others who have examined the credible studies. The percentage of gay people in any society has not changed since the earliest studies, although the percentage found by Kinsey was higher than later studies done more recently. You don't have to accept that, and you can teach your children how you see fit. I am quite sure that Alan Keyes, Newt Gingrich's mother, Barry Goldwater, Randall Terry, Phyllis Schlafly and Dick Cheney taught their children their feelings on homosexuality, yet they ended up with gay children.

I am no Roy Moore fan but I do respect him not only for his Christian beliefs but his stand on the Ten Commandments. The public display of the Ten Commandments is as American as ice cream and apple pie but currently we have a bunch of people that believe we evolved from swamp gas trying to banish them from any public display. On second thought Roy Moore may just be what we need for "govnah". To be decided.
I would respectfully suggest that if you are desirous of a representative spokesperson for the Christian "community", you look elsewhere. Having this reactionary out front will do nothing to further the ideals of Christianity OR the State of Alabama. We do not need another George Wallace standing in the proverbial schoolhouse door - especially this advocate for theocratic rule.

By the way - Ice cream was invented in China.

I will not be supporting Roy Moore. I was responding facetiously to the stupid arrogant way this thread started. I won't argue on the ice cream but the 10 Commandments were not written here either. But China??????????

Lol.....I originally thought it was developed in Russia, but looked up and discovered it was the Chinese who invented the method of freezing which resulted in a similar product as our ice cream. Link

Bring money.

Speaking of money, I wonder if Moore will be able to raise any? Last time the "establishment" did not work for him AT ALL.

I agree. Since apple pie is a Dutch invention and ice cream is a Roman invention, I guess the public display of the ten Commandments is about American as those.

Heck, Alabama has Roy Moore. We have Mary Carey, celebrated porn star, who always runs for...something. And gets votes! Let's say her platform is...tremendous, but I'm not sure she has sufficient time during her administration to accomplish all she promises.

How does that "take the fun out of condemnation"?? God does the condemning, humans are incapable of true condemnation.
Also, you are acting like everything Jesus ever said as all wine and roses... Jesus spoke a lot of angry rhetoric towards sinners and lukewarm Christians. I'm sure you remember the "furniture moving" by Jesus in the temple don't you? Jesus was pissed and let them know it pretty clearly. Admonishing sin is not "judging" as society likes to coin it. We are called as Christians to point out and admonish sin on Earth. God does the judging. Condemnation is Hell. But we as humans choose that path.
I have a feeling you are just another bitter person who has no grasp of The Bible. You'd rather cherrypick verses and hope you can stick it to "religion" because you are a rebel. You only hurt yourself with that. Study the Bible without precondition as a rebel or in terms of "religion". A common sense understanding of much of the Bible awaits you it you'll do that.
