This article point out the value of RU 486 in breast cancer treatment and prevention. Alternet reports, "Before RU 486 was FDA approved, doctors were already providing abortions in pill form using a drug called methotrexate, which had been FDA-approved for years as a treatment for cancer, arthritis, and Crohn's disease," despite the fact that a side effect was induced abortion. "Because methotrexate was approved for a variety of illnesses, it was politically impossible for anti-abortion groups to push the FDA to revoke its approval."
Pro Choice groups have been supporting research into other uses of RU 486 Includiong cancer treatment, as an anti depressant, and as recently as Novermber announced results that indicate RU 486 may be effective in Breast Cancer Treatment.
