Lower Alabama's comment is a shining example of the sheer backward attitude that is prevalent in Russellville and Franklin county. Russellville is not "dry". You just can't buy alcohol there. You drive to the county line and make a tax donation to Colbert County and drink all you want. Colbert County gets all the tax revenue and Franklin County gets all the problems with those coming back.

No alchohol sales but it appears that there are plenty of markets to purchase meth.

What hypocrisy.

Russellville = A great place to be FROM.

I'm guessing Russellville doesn't miss you very much . . .
you know that some people can,t see the forest for looking at the trees. we have a new airport that cost millions,it is for the businessmen coming to r,ville .but we have nothing for them to do. these people like to entertain they clients.what good is for people to come here ,but go the shoals to spend there money.we have a new jail. state of the art they tell me it is going to take a lot of money to run it. look out taxes. it is a choice thing .mostly everyone in r,ville goes to the shoals for something.it being wet has nothing to do with it.you can go to the line and back in twenty min. how dry are you?
It is NOT a "conservative" thing to restrict liquor sales. Its a CONTROL thing. Unfortunately what most people miss is that people who want to drink, just buy it and bring it home with them. Being a "dry" county really means nothing - except that someone else is collecting the tax revenue you could be using. This is all so pitiful - we have entered a new century.
My favorite thing to do on weekends was drive by B&Bs and Yogis and what used to be Love's.

It was hilarious to drive by during peak weekend hours and see all the 33 tags with people stuffing their liquor and beer in the trunk, afraid a preacher or neighbor might see them.

I blew my horn EVERYTIME I saw that, and probably gave more people heart attacks than I know about.

Good Times.

It is pathetic to think all that tax money went to Colbert County. When Russellville City Schools and the City itself could have made some hefty change.

You don't have to partake, but it is an easy way to make money. There aren't many options left for raising funds in the 'ville anymore.

I really don't miss the town. I hoped I would, but I really don't.

I imagine it will be a ghost town when I return for my 30 year reunion.

And it's because they elect "Good Ol' Boys" who have no idea how to run a government, so noone should complain about immigration, poor business, property values or money problems until someone with brains and experience is put into office.
