Being someone that enjoys most all cuisines I am sad to report that New Orleans Transfer is now permanently closed account of the owner's death.

Mitchell (Mitch) Wallace

 Times Daily Obit

I always enjoyed dining at New Orleans Transfer and Mitch had a great talent as a chef and could create dishes that were very close in quality and taste to those I had when I visited New Orleans.  Mitch was actually still quite young and in his 50's.  It didn't say what the cause of death was but from what many say he smoked a lot and was under hospice before his death so it could have been Cancer caused due to smoking.

Either way, it's a loss to the area both from this wonderful, talented, individual and a loss of one of the, if not the best, source of Cajun cuisine.  The only other Cajun (New Orleans) Cuisine that I enjoyed as much in the area was a small hole in the wall joint on Avalon Avenue, years ago, whose chef was a single father who moved to the Muscle Shoals area to open a restaurant.  The restaurant was very small and but was quite popular before he closed it to move back to the New Orleans area.  Between his place and New Orleans Transfer, they were the best source of Cajun cuisine in the area.  It's also sad for the other employees who found themselves out of work.  The girls were regular employees at New Orleans Transfer and they didn't have the normal turn around that many restaurants suffer from.  It was like a family restaurant and they always made you feel at home, or at least that was my impression.
