I was going to use: Sarah Palin Tosses Cookies in the header for this post, but that might have been in bad taste! Big Grin Protect yourself from the nanny state: Ditch the fruit and eat the sweets to insure a strong America, according to Sister Sarah!!!!!!

Sarah Palin Decries Proposed School Nutrition Regulation as “Nanny State Run Amok”
by bettina elias siegel on November 10, 2010

Former Alaska governor and Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin has criticized proposed school nutrition guidelines in Pennsylvania which would limit the sweets allowed for classroom and holiday parties at school, and which would encourage parents to serve more healthy snacks like fruits or vegetables. The Pennsylvania State Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the proposed guidelines this spring.

Before attending a Bucks County, PA school fundraiser Tuesday, Ms. Palin tweeted, ““2 PA school speech; I’ll intro kids 2 beauty of laissez-faire via serving them cookies amidst school cookie ban debate;Nanny state run amok!” She then brought 200 sugar cookies to event, and was quoted by ABC News as saying:

I had to shake it up a little bit because I heard there is a debate going on in Pennsylvania over whether most schools condemn sweets, cakes, cookies, that type of thing. I brought dozens and dozens of cookies to these students.

ABC further quoted Ms. Palin:

You shouldn’t been making these decisions about what you can eat at the school. Should it be the government or should it be the parents?”

Of course, it’s the framing of that last question which is so specious, in that it seemingly pits governmental intrusion against personal freedom. But that’s not what’s going on here. I personally have no interest in regulating what foods a parent can or cannot bring for his/her child’s own consumption at school. That would, in my opinion, be a true example of a Nanny State.

What I do object to, however, is the lack of oversight regarding what foods other parents can bring for my child’s consumption. As I argued in one of my first Lunch Tray posts (“The Birthday Cupcake Debate Heats Up“), when a child is at school, he or she is as captive to what goes on there as a person in an elevator is captive to second-hand smoke. We don’t allow smoking in elevators, and we shouldn’t allow the serving of food to school children to which a parent might object on a variety of grounds — nutritional, religious, a concern about allergens, or for any other reason.

Moreover, with childhood obesity quickly becoming one of the biggest public health crises facing this country, Palin’s cookie stunt strikes me as somewhat tone deaf. With one out of three children already overweight or obese, and with the potential health care costs of obesity currently estimated at $150 billion (and counting), is this really where she wants to make her point about “protecting our freedoms”?

Another of your "brilliant" comebacks Ronnie P. Roll Eyes Are you sure you don't want to edit it? Have you been giving lessons on sidestepping date and time stamps of edits to other right wing posters on here? We need to make sure that if children are going to be devious they at least need to be quick and smart about it. Did your folks not teach you how to do that Ronnie P?
Which one are you proud of, the lame reply to the Sarah Palin post, or the fact that you were caught in the thread started by Juan Hunt titled "Pardon me while I flip flop" editing posts without a date and time stamp with a correction and then getting caught because I had copied the original post in my reply! I mean are you proud of being lame, being devious or of being stupid and getting caught?

As an aside, if the state does not want the fedgov telling them what nutritional standards they must meet, then the state should stop taking the fedgov money. Thats hard for a hypocrite to stomach.

I actually agree with the last part of your post. The fed has no business in education or nutrition. That is beyond their constitutional duties. The fed should also not be giving money to anyone. The fed has no money. That is another example of re-distribution of wealth. I know Alabama receives more fed money than it pays in but that just means some state is paying more than it's getting. We don't need to be dependant on the fed.

Without fedgov input, state income taxes in AlObama will have to increase 35%, while federal income taxes would not change, of course. Thats why we have such low taxes.

That's assuming we don't change the states spending habits and earmarks. Surely you don't assume there is not too much state spending.

What memo was that? There will be vigorous debate on a lot of things, which is a good thing. When I have budget cuts at home it is not always easy or popular. It sounds good to say stop the spending but actually doing it is never easy. The problem is no one wants to suffer and in the end we all are going to suffer one way or another.

Another one of your premature elation posts that has been handily debunked. Big Grin

I think he has ED too. Educational Deficiency.

It is really showing hypocrisy in one post to talk about how lofty you and Cage and b50m are and never STOOP to name calling and slurs, then throughout all your subsequent posts STOOP to name calling and slurs. I mean if this wasn't a pattern with you folks it wouldn't be so obvious. Denial and hypocrisy must be one of the side effects of being a (tea****** and a devotee of Fox and friends), you will note I didn't use the actual term for those who affiliate themselves with the madness that is the tea party and have been spotted at rallys wearing hats with tea bags hanging from them, I am really taking the high ground! Big Grin
Oh yes, eating a **** cookie every now and then could be disastrous, as bad as putting a little toy in a freaking Happy Meal that a kid might get once a month. Let's see how many other things we can steal from a child. Wouldn't want the little tots to enjoy themselves every once and a while now would we. I guess they could learn to smoke cigarettes like their "president".
Jennifer, your tea inebriation is showing again! There is legislation banning the sale of tobacco to children, how was it passed? Are you advocating child obesity? It appears Mama Grizzly is! It was one of Sarah Palin dumb moves. probably for publicity, plain and simple. But sometimes showing her and HER FOLLOWERS stupidity is really just too deliciously good to pass up! Sort of like a twinkie! Wink

I know you can't get things into your head, but I will try again. I am not a member of the Tea Party. If I ever become a member I will have no problem stating such. So now you are saying having a cookie makes people fat? Rocky, even YOU should be able to see how you're reaching for something, anything, no matter how silly, to try to use to degrade Palin. You never eat a cookie? Your kids never have a cookie? And what does the sale of tobacco have to do with it? Oh, you're trying to justify his highnesses smoking? You're a pip. And btw, michele is the LAST person to talk about someone else being fat. That heifer has to weigh close to 200 pounds herself. So maybe they should clean up their own house before they start telling others what their kids can and can't have.

Jennifer, I don't know whether you watch too much Fox, Entertainment Tonight or the Bad Girls Club,
Who said anything in this thread about Michele Obama calling someone fat?
Are you in some way trying to dispute the fact that childhood obesity is at epidimic proportions in the United States?
I would go on, but Jennifer you may assume your position with the other dining room chairs now! Razzer

I didn't say it was in this thread. You can't seem to understand references to anything unless it's right before your eyes. And you never want to answer questions, you just want to sidestep and pretend someone is off the subject. Childhood obesity is the subject, and the "First Sasquatch", has formed a "task force" to wipe it out. (Hold on a second while I laugh). That's like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse if you ask me.

I imagine you keep your figure with steady diet of Marlboros, Diet RC, and meth.
Now Juan, you are stereotyping! Wink Jennifer said she wasn't a member of the tea party so I won't be able to pick her out at a rally on You Tube and as of now we are not sure she is from Sand Mountain. She just has some warped view of weight, it would be great if I saw more of the wobblers getting out of vehicles with McCain stickers still on them that were as toned as Michele Obama! Cool ( or even Sarah Palin for that matter, Rock there you go/ once you get down in that gutter it is hard to get back up, well no let me just leave this alone Wink)
I would suggest any reader of this post, whom wants to be accurately informed of current events, carefully research previous "information" provided by this poster, and the history of the proven inaccuracy of such posts. I would also point to the manner in which these posts are delivered, which has become "lore". There is no use in attempting to provide the original poster with accurate details.
Thank You.
Let me also suggest that anyone who actually wants to see unbiased, real opinion from anything other than Fox or one of their "outlets" always ask for PROVENANCE if not provided by any post by CAGE. He is known for his misinformation and ommission of sources used in his posts. There is no need in pointing this out to Cage, he is in a deep state of denial as to his indoctrination.

Thank you.
