I can ride my child in my Harley and I see people riding in the back end of a pick up truck and there is no seat belt. Tell me why I can get a ticket for not having one on when I drive my car? And tell me why most police cars do not have tag lights on them, but you will get pulled over for it if you don't have them.

The seatbelt law is designed for vehicles "equipped" with seatbelts or originally designed with them installed. It is also for those in the front passenger compartment or those in the back seat under a certain age. You have to be a certain age to ride in the bed of a pickup truck as well. As for the police cars with no tag light, you are correct, they should be fixing that issue prior to patrols.
You have to put a helmet on when you are on your Harley, right?

And next time you are pulled over, point out that plate light being out, see what happens. I was pulled over for a tail light out by a cop with a headlight out. I actually told him that I didnt think he was a cop behind me because his headlight was out. As he was writting me the ticket, he said the judge would throw it out if i showed that it was fixed, then thanked me for telling him about his headlight. Ugh....

You got a ticket for having a tail light out? Yes the judge should throw it out. Alabama 32-5-240 plainly states one working tail light. Who would write that anyway when you have a warning book? Reason #3611 of why people dislike law enforcement.
It happened in Savannah, TN. And the Judge did dismiss it, just had to show my $3 or so receipt for the bulb. I agree about the warning ticket, though. The officer was nice about it, and it didnt even cost me court costs, but if you know the judge is going to throw it out, why not give me a warning and not make me waste a half a day in court.....

I guess thats why I see so many people driving around with one taillight. One. Vehicles today have three (at least). I can understand one being out, but to drive around with two taillights out.

I have learned to look for things to check my taillights in when I am backing up. A store window, another vehicle, etc. I just remind myself to check when I can, that way if one is out I notice it before the other two go out.....

To be accurate, Alabama law states it must be the driver side tail light working or it is a violation.

I was about to ask the same question.

YARR me too, cuz I can't find that particular tidbit in the code.

Probably right between the one about having to wear shoes while driving a car and the one about it being illegal to cut through a parking lot to get from one road to the next. Wink

Just to show you who is boss. I am surprised the judge didn't charge you court cost.
I got a tkt in Memphis for not having an inspection sticker, which I had and was in full view on the windshield. I pointed it out to the cop who just told me to 'tell it to the judge'.
I did take it to court, where the $20 tkt was dismissed, but I was charged court cost of $20. I protested to the judge that I was being convicted innocent. He cut the court cost down to $10 and told me not to say anything else to him.
I maintain that a lot of it is about money and how to separate yours from you, and re-distribute it to the state.

On the other hand, I got stopped for speeding in a neighborhood (30 in a 25) and when the cop ask me where I worked and I told him , he ask me if I knew a certain person. I said I did, and the cop ask me what I thought of him. After careful consideration, I thought the truth should prevail and I told him I thought he was a SOB. The cop said "I agree" , tore up the tkt, and said "have a nice day". Smiler You never know what you are gonna get.

Oh, you are kidding...those don't exist? I've been duped!

You and me both Joy. I've heard the one about not wearing shoes while driving all my life although I never thought it was really true. I've done it several times myself.
