I saw about the trainer at SeaWorld getting killed. That is so terrible....I cannot imagine how traumatized those poor tourists must be who witnessed it.

There is absolutely no way I would go anywhere close to a wild animal. They are called wild animals for a reason....I just hate that someone got killed trying to entertain others with that kind of animal.

As a victim of an exotic animal attack, I have to disagree with you. The death was accidental and the animal was not wild. It was exotic. A wild animal would be one that had spent its entire life in the wild. This whale was just acting on natural instincts which harmed humans. I understand your concern about using killing as a way to entertain other, but zoos and other exhibits of exotic animals are not based in entertainment, but rather education. Many endangered animals are no longer on the endangered lists just because of the efforts done by Busch and other organizations that work with animals. Yes...it's a terrible incident, but considering how many accidents happen each day due to human stupidity/greed/pride/etc. it really pales in comparison. Maybe humans are the wild animals?
I feel is is cruel and selfish for human beings to take wild animals away from their natural habit just to make money from curiois humans who never give it a nother thought once they leave the amusment parks. Selfish people with no respect for the poor creatures in cages....hostages for the almighty dollar.
I read the description by witnesses of what happened. They said he reached up and grabbed her ponytail and pulled her into the water with him, and seemed to be playing with her, poking at her and trying to get her to play back. She was in the water with him all the time, training/playing. I'm sure he wasn't aware that she couldn't breathe. How could anyone expect him to? Frowner

"Brancheau, 40, was rubbing Tilikum from a poolside platform when the 22-foot, 12,000-pound creature reached up, grabbed her long braid in its mouth and dragged her underwater."

I agree. Would any of us like to be held prisoner and made to entertain people all day? I know I would not.

This brings to mind the elephants that sometimes escape the circus and go on rampages. I feel sorry for them too.

That's a good question.

the answer is yes. it can! it would survive fine and maybe even find a new pod.

bottom line, we , as humans, need to become more tolerant of our fellow inhabitants of earth!
there is a huge movement among the country's zoos to refit the habitats of the animals to mimic its natural habitat. that speaks volumes for how we interpret captivity.
hey, lets keep this animal in a cage, but lets fool it into thinking it's not!
ummmmmm.....FAIL!
Sorry...just gotta pipe in. THEY"RE NOT WILD ANIMALS. Tehy're exotic animals brought in from the wild. They have only been domesticated a number of years. They are NOT trapped nor made to entertain. Sea World is makes incredible efforts to helping the preservations of many sea animals.

I will gladly say that I am the ONLY person on this board with any REAL experience dealing with an exotic animal attack. Do I feel sorry for the animals? No. Do I feel sorry for myself being in the wrong place at the wrong time? No. Why are you being so passionate and inssensitive over something that you don't really full understand. It was a freak ACCIDENT. The animal was PLAYING and had no idea why his trainer was killed. Steinbeck wrote a book about it...called of Mice and Men.

What makes an exotic animal "brought in from the wild", not a wild animal anymore? Are you saying because they're trained that they're no longer wild animals? Or was this whale born in captivity? I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from.

I think you are brainwashed into thinking a zoo and a waterpark like Seaworld are good things.
Lets put you into prison and see how it feels!
