In September 2008, Steven Chu, now Secretary of Energy stated,"Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe," in an interview for the WSJ.

Obama's people wants gas prices to rise.  Europe is now paying about $8 per gallon.  Happy motoring.

That is the socialist democrats master plan.

To destroy the US economy and force green energy on us, that isn't

sufficient for this countries energy needs. Sun doesn't always shine,

the wind doesn't always blow. We need oil, natural gas, coal, and

nuclear power. Our country is rich with these resources. We're just not

allowed to get to most of it. If the left don't believe this just go back

and study the teachings of the former Obama appointed Green Czar,

Van Jones. It will blow your mind. He probably would have still been

there if Beck wouldn't have exposed him for the revolutionary he is.

From the look of all the traffic on the roads, high gas prices have NOT slowed down the amt of gasoline purchased. Just an observation mind you, no data to back it up, just that traffic seems horrible.

Just made a run to the Gulf Coast and traffic out on the American Autobahn (aka I65) was almost bumper to bumper most of the way down.

If you think Obama has pushed up the price of gas to stop it's use, 1st it hasen't worked, and second, your tin-foil hat is leaking.

So far nothing Mr. Obama has tried has worked, do you honestly think this would be any

different? Obama in reality hasn't pushed up the prices, the speculators have. Because of

his administration's policies of not allowing more access to our countries resourses, the

prices of energy will not be falling anytime soon.

Thank you for finally getting to the problem . Of course Obama can't do much about the cost of gasoline. Oil is a world wide commodity and will be traded at whatever price the market will bare, but that market is controlled by the speculators.

Perhaps we will get some price relief in June when Michael Dunn is replaced on the CFTC as he constantly votes with the Republicans  to NOT regulate the traders using the Dodd-Franks bill, and let the gas and oil stay high. That is one thing that Obama CAN do.

You can thank the Congressional Republicans for not wanting to fund the CFTC for the enforcement of the Dodd-Franks bill/

The regulations on commodity trading worked really well from their inception as part of the New Deal until Reagan started dismantling them.

I'm all about looking at history and seeing what worked and what didn't. We should keep or re-institute what worked; we should quit doing what didn't. This is one thing that obviously worked as it stabilized commodity prices for a long long time, especially grain. Too bad we are having to repeat the problems of the past because we refuse to learn from it. Remember, we've been there and done that already.

The New Deal worked, dismantling it has failed and is continuing to send our country deeper into problems. Get over it.

Yes it worked so well in the seventies. Remember Jimmy had one term.

The first embargo was in 67. We should have started finding alternative fuel then. We didn't . Price of gas skyrocketed from about 17 cents up to 40 or 50 cents as I recall.

The second was in 73. Lessons NOT learned from the embargo in 67. Gasoline skyrocketed to over a dollar a gal.

After that one, Carter tried to do something, got CAFE standards passed for cars but not trucks, and basically promised out problems would be ended with the completion of the Alaska pipeline.

Lesson not learned- people started driving trucks (SUV's) .

Will we ever learn ? I sure hope so.

Before the CAFE standards, the station wagon was the vehicle of choice for families. CAFE caused their demise.  Families still needed vehicles to carry their children and their things.  Unintended consequence was the rise of the SUV.  Again, government regulations making things worse.
