$12,500 barely covers transportation. This not the only fundraiser we are having. The school has approximately 60 students. There are 13 seniors. Without fundraising, the trip would be $1300 - $1500 per person.
So all the 60 people listed on your link are not going? If the class voted, didn't they know how much it would cost? If the parents aren't going to write a check, maybe the fundraising should have started last year. I know the SHS band has been invited to Washington to play for Columbus Day and those band parents have been hustling. SHS band is selling tickets to a Whole Hog Express dinner 9/16/10.

No, not all 60, some are parents, some are underclassmen and some are teachers. The reason they are all listed is to be able to track who solicited who. Unfortunately, we didn't know last year that this was the trip. Us parents and all the students are hustling.

And we parents will be writing checks. We just want to make them a little smaller.
It sounds like a wonderful trip. In my senior year, my band went to DC to play for the FBLA convention. Visited most of the major landmarks, and even had our senator take us on a special tour of the Capitol.
Went back 2 weeks later to work in New York- turned 18 there and met Jack Dempsey.
All these years later, I still remember it like it was last year.
I am sure that these kids will feel the same way when they are adults.
Far as I remember tho, I (my parents) paid my way there.

Isn't the Lighthouse Learning Center sponsored by the Camelite Churches ?

No, it isn't. It is an independent, private, Christian based, non-deminational school. It is not affiliated with any other schools or religious denominations.
This statement in no way tells us anything about your group. Please see my post about suggested info about this school. I do not send money to anonymous organizations of which I have never heard before. You have told us nothing!

It is not an anonymous organization. If you had clicked on the link you would have found the phone number and address. I will not post names on the forum, but you can call (they are in the phone book as well) and schedule a time to go by and meet the students and faculty.

This school has been around for several years, but it is a very small school. They are committed to giving the children a quality education and helping them succeed at the next level, both in college and in life. They are a center for "advanced learning" so most of the students excell far beyond where they would be held to in public schools.

It is no way sponsored or affilliated with any church or other organization. The school is funded solely by tuition and fundraising. They have been slowly growing and want to keep growing at a slow but steady pace so the children receive their lessons in smaller group settings.

So they are not accredited?

Honestly, I don't know what the accreditation status is for them. I do know that they consistantly score higher on all standardized test such as ACT and SAT (as well as graduation exam) than most in public schools. Also, a group of 5 seniors took a psychology class at NWSCC this summer and were the 5 highest grades in the class. The seniors always have much success obtaining scholarships and getting into the colleges of their choosing.

But, as for the accreditation, I don't know the status, call the school and the can tell you what you want to know.
