Southern Baptist Convention is moving to curb potential litigation and to clean up Sexual abuse within the denomination.  If such abuse exist, which it surely does in all denominations such as was highlighted in a local Muscle Shoals Southern Baptist church when it was learned and made public about a sexual abuser being on staff in the Church.  Worse a new book claims that Four in Five Catholic priest are homosexual, that's 80%. Other articles related to the Catholic Church (and every Church/denomination has its issues with homosexuality) The NY Times has an article about a Gay priest calling it a cage and not a closet.  and NY Magazine claims it's a crisis within the Catholic Church.  Some may claim that the Church's demand of celibacy caters to homosexuals but I don't believe that's the case.   Others claim that Homosexual priest abuse of young men and boys are evidence that homosexuals are a danger to the youth of the nation.  I also don't believe that is the case but I also believe that far too long abuse within the Church has been protected and overlooked by seniors who, for what ever reasons, failed to take action against those accused of abuse.  I believe this caused a great many to leave the church and many to become angry at anything to do with religion or G_d.

There are many evils within various Churches but those should be identified and handled appropriately because it does a great bit of damage to the Church itself.  It also does a great deal of damage to the cause of Christ which is the worst damage.  At least the Pope has taken some steps to address the problem at the highest level,  but it remains to be seen if that will help curb the problem.  If he's serious about it and the first article is correct then it could decimate the numbers of Priest within the Church itself.  There is also a move, within many Churches, to write out the condemnation on Homosexuality from within the Bible but I believe this is a grave mistake also.

The Church, all Churches, should be places where people feel comfortable and where they can come to discover G_d, Christ, and build their own Spiritual Maturity but I do not believe any Church needs to cater to any particular group or groups in order to achieve greater acceptance from society.  If you were to eliminate all sinners from within the Church then no one would be there so it's accepted that none of us are perfect and that we are all fallen short of perfection but we also should attempt to maintain the Churches as places where we can go to get Closer to G_d rather than devote reasons to separate ourselves from Him.

Be as the Bereans ( Acts 17:11 )
