You can bet if several students knew about her behavior with some of the male students then some of the teachers did as well and just turned their back on it. The same thing happened at Central with Greg Brewer molesting the seventh grade girl. Many students knew as well as some teachers. Any teacher who knew this was going on should also be held accountable and lose their job as well as be charged with some sort of crime for not reporting it.

The school is not too far from where I live. I saw some comment, could have been a joke, by another boy that she had touched his - whatever word he used. Don't know if this was unsolicited or not.

She will get a slap on the wrist as most females do in north Alabama court. The race of the victim will have a lot to do with this. These things have been going on for years. At Colbert Heights in the 70's and 80's there was 2 teachers doing this one male and one female. The female retired not long ago, the male got cought but it was sweped under the rug due to race.

My daughter is a student at Sheffield and she was shocked but apparently a lot of her friends were not. I hate that this woman has blemished the image of the school, there are a lot of good teachers there and for the most part the teachers and administration really care about the students and will bend over backwards to make sure the students that want to learn have every opportunity they can possibly offer.

I think that was poke at me for some reason...vain attempt at humor maybe? I don't think it had anything to do with this accused teacher's (Watkins) story though.....also, yes, Mrs. Van Devender did retire a few years ago...and she is the wife of a pastor (also retired)...and she is also my MOTHER....not too sure she would agree with you on the elderly part though!
