No, he should not be paroled.

However, if he is, it is because there were some serious problems with the prosecution's case that he did not receive a capital conviction. The aritcle doesn't state what the problems were. I can't imagine why the state allowed him to plead and receive a sentence of life WITH the possibility of parole.

One other point--the article states that the felon, Beecher, is not expected to attend his hearing. Unless the law has changed very recently, no prisoners are allowed to attend their own hearings in Alabama as they are in some states.

I get the impression from the article that he should be paroled because he's an old man and would never hurt anybody. The lady he raped and murdered was not allowed to grow old.

Just because he's old doesn't mean he wouldn't try rape. As FV and anybody else who's dealt with old men know that sex last thing on their mind. Literally.

This man took 2 lives that day, without thinking. In my opinion he lost all his rights at that moment wither he be young or old. Men like him should die the same death their victim's do.

Putting people in jail for crimes like murder is not the answer. What do they have to worry about they have a roof over their heads, 3 meals a day, they don't have to worry about Rent, Lights, the cost of gas, medical insurance. Why its all provided for them, they have it made. So my question is, How is that punishment for a crime?

The Victims families still have all that to deal with, they are the ones being punished in my opinion. While the person that killed their loved one lives the good life. Does that seem fair? NO

I'm not taking any chances. The last time I took up for someone accused of murder, a certain well-known member of VOCAL accused me of being his defense attorney.

Daybegger, first, the offender must ask for forgiveness, then, if the offended grants forgiveness, it is an emotional/intellectual grant with no legal currency. Bottom line, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time..." No parole...life without parole means LIFE without parole.

Shel, that's the point. He didn't get life without. He was for some reason given life with the possibility of parole. So far he hasn't made it. I vote no also.

Thanks Fox, the crimes were so egregious I could not believe parole was a possibility. I thought they were trying to get parole based on a contrived legal motion.

That is the Old Testament, J&D. The NT says turn the other cheek, but also to obey laws. There really wouldn't be any way to give this man an eye for an eye.

forgiveness/salvation: the Bible says if this man is a follower of Christ, and has repented of his sin, he will be forgiven, and Heaven will be his home. God makes no difference in the weight of sins. i think most all of us have a hard time with this.
redemption/brotherhood of man: Believers are taught to forgive regardless, tho there are consequences for sin.
if he is a non-believer, he remains unsaved, and society will still require him to pay for breaking the law.

If Beecher is terminally ill and leaves under the new medical leave act, I have no problem with that. If he is simply in somewhat bad health and wants to play the wheelchair card, I say no way!
