Recently read an article praising Nixon for going to China and opening it to the West. There are arguments for and against this act. Most liberals, who otherwise despised Nixon, praise him for this.
However, the same liberals berate and mock Trump for meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore. Trump gave away nothing, but a meeting. He received three American prisoners, at worst. Military exercises were suspended for a bit. If, Trump succeeds, North Korea will give up its nuclear weapons, tech and most missiles. If not, three people are free, who would have died in a Nork prison.
Yes, as the liberals argue, Kim Jung Un is a vile person who murdered his own family members and starves his own people, which is common practice for his family and communists, in general (Venezuela, anyone). Un is also the first in his family to study in Switzerland and live in the West for a considerable time. He knows things could be better for his country. Reportedly, the new sanctions have the country in desperate straits.
Now, as to China, Mao Tse Tung ruled when Nixon visited. Mao holds the record for the world's worst mass murderer, plus he was an extreme pedophile -- liked little girls and insisted on his way with them. If, Nixon could work diplomacy with such a monster, why can't Trump do the same with a lesser sort of monster?
As the Klingon's say, "only Nixon could go to China."
