You & mean misunderstood what I was saying. I'm not saying everyone that has had cancer is payback for anything. My Mom died with cancer too. I'm only saying that if there is a God that could be his way of letting Atkins reap what she sowed.

Perhaps that is one way of looking at it. I just don't believe that. But I can assure you that Ms. Atkins has never gone a day without thinking about what she has done. I am quite sure that she has thought the same thing herself as you suggest. A life in prison, the removal of a leg, cancer, and the memory of what she did. It sounds like hell. I sincerely hope she is the Christian she claims to be.
I think there's a laundry list. First, remember, the person who is serving life without could have been sentenced to death--it's still a capital murder conviction, the judge just didn't hand down the death sentence.

Some crimes that are capital in nature are:

1. Killing a child 14 or under
2. Killing a police officer
3. Killing a person while committing another crime
4. Killing a person traveling in a vehicle (there may be some more to this one, I'm fuzzy on it)
5. Killing more than one person during the commission of the act
6. Murder for hire (think Betty Wilson)

I once read that Alabama has added so many to the list it now looks like our wonderful constitution. I'm not sure there's much rhyme or reason to it. I thought the scumbag who killed his child in Franklin County by shaking it didn't meet the criteria, but Duwon Smith who assisted in the Florence liquor store robbery did. I will never understand why he wasn't tried for capital murder.

Perhaps Trader or Bubba could comment on the list?
