My child started Bactrim 6 days ago for a sinus infection. Complained today about feeling like she'd been hit by a truck. Now she's running a fever of 102.8. I called MedPlus (where she saw the doctor) and they said to stop the Bactrim, that it's a side effect. I have never heard this in my life but it says on the internet that it can be. Has anyone here ever had a fever BECAUSE of Bactrim?

Thanks, all! Just got back from the ER and they do feel it's a reaction. All tests they did were negative and even the wbc's were normal. It's been 17 hours since the last Bactrim and she feels much better. The fever is gone, too! It was nearly 103 a few hours ago. Unbelievable. Anyway, now she has to take some steroids and I hope she doesn't have the same reaction to them that I do. They make me mean as a snake!
no not sick with fever but my child took Bactrim for a uti when she was 5, she just turned 12 and the reaction she had was bruises all over her body. Her reaction mimicked a condition called ITP where your body doesnt make blood platelets. It was very scary for us, had to go to the cancer center in bham just to make sure it wasnt ITP or leukemia.
