Scientists attempt to discover the true nature of things by the scientific method of experimentation. They are by definition, not idealists.

Its the idealists of the 18th to early 20th century that caused so much misery, death and destruction. They attempted to force a mental construct upon societies, without accounting for the nature of man or how men interact with each other. Trying to jam humans into a utopia dreamed up by an idealist usually ends in defeat with a bloody trail behind it.
