Lets get this thing started
Took my mother there tuesday this was my firs trip there. It was Quite plesant. the plate lunch came out in record time. I had fried chicken with cabbage, fried corn and yams. It was all good even had a tommato slice and some onions. this meal was definatly cooked with soul. It had alot of what too many restaraunts leave out, flavor. Also! I like to see what kind of rating they have from the health dept, Theirs is a 98. Even though the young lady had to clean our table(because the prior patron had just left when we got there) I promise we wil be back soon.

I have eaten at Smack's a couple of times and enjoyed both visits. The food is real home cooking made fresh. Great service both times.

Our SS class had a private party there one Sunday night. We had a blast. Definitely recommend them for small gathering like that. We had 17 couples and pretty much packed the place. Nobody left hungry!

Where is this place located?

From Florence, cross Shoals Creek Bridge and take a left at the Stop Light. Take an immediate right on to the service road. It is on your left less than 1/4 mile from bridge. You can see it from Hwy 72 if you know where to look. The building used to be an antique shop and at one time a small engine repair shop (I think).

Soul food i.e. good Southern cooking. Pork Chops and ribs are both good. In general, it is a meat and 3 veg kind of place.

They do take cards and I think they are smoke free but don't hold me to that.

I have a menu in my car. I may add more later.

They are closed on Sunday. Open for lunch and dinner. Casual dress.
Have eaten there several times. The first time we ate there right after they opened kind of turned us off. However, a friend of ours recommended we give them a second chance so we do. They have much improved their service and their food. Since the second chance visit I have returned several times and can give them the coveted

unclegus , thanks for posting this about Smacks. I was like some of the others , when they first opened it was fairly good.
After reading all of these replies i went back today and it was a complete different taste all together. I could not believe the amount of food they served on a plate. i will be going back real soon.
I HAVE READING THE COMMENTS
On Smack's and decided to give them a try...
So on a Wednedsay at about 12:45...
When we got there all tables were full of used plates and the last patrons were in the process of paying..
There were two young teenage girls around (14 to 16) out front. One taking the money, and the other cleaning tables...We stood there for about 3 minutes and neither one acknowledged us...I noticed a Gentleman who was sitting in the back of the private dining room, that was closed off...he was watching us...but made no move get up to seat us....
It appeared to us...he was part of the establishment...but which part...???
We decided to take a table...and removed all of the dirty dishes from our selected table to another...We sit down and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited (all the time...one of the teenage girl's kept cleaning the tables around us...and still never said a word to us...) A few minutes later the teenager behind the counter...came out and wiped off our table...then walked away...and we waited...finally...the older of the two young ladies went to the other one...and stated...you need to get their order...Yep! you guessed it...the young lady cleaning the tables was our waitress...AFTER being told too...she came over and asked what we wanted...? If there had not been a menu board across the room...we would not had any idea of what they were serving..
My friend ordered Fried chicken Breast, Macaronni and Cheese, and fried okra. I ordered the Fried Chicken, collard greens, northern beans and slaw...
We saw the sign that said fresh lemonade...so we asked our waitress if the lemonade was fresh and made here...she stated yes...so we both ordered the lemonade
When the meals arrived...the fried chicken breast had turned into 3 hard fried chicken wings..count them 1...2...3.., along with the side dishes...
Mind came out as two pieces of thighs and side dishes...
The lemonades showed up....it appeared by its color and taste...it was probably powdered...or concentrated, because I haven't had any homemade lemonade taste like before...

Now to the taste...The chicken was soaked in Grease and over cooked, the Macaronni/Cheese was average, the beans average, slaw average, collards salty, fried okra average...corn muffins average...

Total Bill $16.00 Plus...We went ahead and gave the young ladies a 4 dollar tip, as it was obvious they had not been trained in waiting tables and it was not their fault as to their inability to do it adequately...
Would I drive out there again for that quality of meal...NO! if I was in the area..not if something else was open...
Maybe this was a off day for them...but for a cook to thrown 3 hard pieces of chicken wings on a plate to be served as the meat entree...tells me more about their style of operation that anything the young ladies did or did not do...

I agree with you on that, they are very distracting.

I guess theirs no law against it. but I sure wish they would take them down.

Too much grease too slow service after leaving you smell like you actually cooked the food yourself.

Agreed.

Smacks is simply uncreative, warmed up canned food and fried stuff served on plastic plates with un-courteous service.

It's not unlike the Hollywood Cafe in Florence. I don't know why that place does so well, either.

When I want good soul food, I go to Cracker Barrel or cook it myself.
Well, I tried lunch at Smack's today. It was my first time, and my last time. Over priced, under served, and just plain bad. I had a little bowl of carrots, a little bowl, and I do mean little, of cabbage, and a very small piece of corn on the cob, and a glass of tea. Oh, and no bread. It cost $7.10. I might not have minded paying that much if it had been good, but it wasn't even close to being good.

I agree. It's not unlike the Hollywood Grill fare: Whatever you want as long as its fried. Warmed up canned veggies, bad atmosphere and service with an attitude.

I don't understand what some folks see in this place when a Cracker Barrel or a few "food troughs" are right down the road.

To each his own, I reckon.
