There is one great place we went. I remember it looking like a huge log place (don't they all, though). It was on the main strip across from a KFC and they served an appetizer called Snake Bites that was puffed tortilla chips with spinach dip. Excellent! (It was also across from the road where you turn to go up to ski) I apologize I can't remember the name.

Watch out for the bears! Did you see the report on the news where a black bear attacked an 8 yr. old boy?

If you haven't gone yet and are still taking suggestions I would suggest you try Chops, which is in the Tanger Outlet area of Pigeon Forge as well as having a satellite location out near I40 and the Bass Pro Shop.

Another great location to eat is the Cherokee Grille which is located in Gatlinburg, on the north east end of the city and adjacent to Calhouns. It's actually owned by the same family or group and they have the most wonderful smoked cheddar home made potato chips and the Smokey Mountain fried chicken at $12.95 is a great deal and leaves you filled, what with the serving amount that they give you. Their Rotisserie chicken is also very good.

Enjoy your trip.

Is the Diner you are referring to in Pigeon Forge Mel's? Stainless steel-like building? We never make a trip up there without eating at Mel's at least once. Great food and fast service.

That's the one. I was really surprised at how good the food and service was. We were in and out in 30 minutes and the fries were awesome.

A friend told me to try the Dixie Stampede dinner show. That's usually not my type of entertainment, but I was really surprised. The food was great and the entertainment was cheesy, but not painful. We went for the Christmas show which was pretty cool.
Remember when Gatlinburg was all trading posts and taffy pulling candy shops and family owned motels? I went for the first time in years with some friends who own a house at the edge of the national park and we got up close and personal with a bear. The bears came through house to house every morning to see what folks had left out for them. In this case, the bear found some tasty sunflower seeds.
One place I would stay away from is Peddlers in Gatlinburg. It cost 80 bucks for two people to have a less expensive steak and a order of chicken that we had to force down. When I didn't order the biggest steak, "the peddler" looked at me with disgust in his eyes. I always end up at Golden Corral in Pigeon Forge at least one time. If you cant find something you like there and leave hungry, its your own fault. For breakfast I usually go to the Pancake Cabin in Gatlinburg justs south of Airport Road on the main drag.
