Fort Carson leaders have launched investigation into a "selfie" photo of a Fort Carson soldier who said she was hiding in her car to avoid saluting the flag went viral Tuesday, drawing a storm of criticism.

Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, of the posts's 43rd Sustainment Group posted the image to her Instagram account with a caption that read, "This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag,

KEEP ALL YOUR 'THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.' COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, (acronym for I don't give an obscenity)."

Fort Carson officials say soldiers caught not saluting at the 5 p.m. "retreat" ceremony for the lowering of the American ensign are subject to an "on the spot correction" -- essentially a loud, one-sided discussion with a sergeant.

It's one of two events per day that require soldiers to stop what they're doing -- even pull over and get out of their cars -- to salute the flag in an act of tradition and military courtesy.

Get used to it. They're getting more blatant about their anti-american feelings. I wish someone would ask her why she even joined the military. You can bet it wasn't to "serve" her country.

Im gonna venture a guess and say that none of you have actually served in the military. Or if you have, it wasn't any time recently. I have and this is not anything uncommon. Go to any base around the time these things are being done and you will find it surprisingly less "active" because a lot of military members rush to get indoors to avoid it. It is almost like a game of red light green light. Thats not to say we didn't respect the flag but more that this is really a non issue being blown up by people who don't know what they are talking about or what military life is actually like.

That flag didn't do anything. The military personal are the ones that put their lives on the line for our freedoms. I don't worship the flag, or hold it above the actual citizens of this country. The obsession some people have with the flag is strange. It makes me think of the way Bill Gray is with the bible. As if the object holds some kind of power or magic.

It's a symbol. Nothing more.

Huddled in a car taking pictures, "bragging" about hiding so she doesn't have to salute the flag doesn't sound bizarre to you?

______

What's uncommon is that she huddled in a car taking pictures, then bragging about hiding, because she didn't want to salute the flag. She showed just exactly how stupid she is.

Yes, it's the people that put their lives on the line & died for our freedom. But I wouldn't call the love for the United States flag an obsession. My Daddy, uncles, & brothers fought for the freedom to hang that flag, to salute that flag. That flag is a symbol of the freedom they fought for. Though I get misty eyed when I stand for the Pledge of Allegiance & to face that flag, it's not because I'm obsessed in any way. It's for the many men that fought & died for their love of that flag & the freedom it represented.

To compare the love I have for our flag & what it represents with the obsession/hate that Bill Gray has with the Bible is very sad.

I'm not saying she wasn't stupid for taking a picture about her doing it and making it public. I am saying that a very large percentage of people in the military do the exact same thing. People that make the comments of "oh she doesn't respect the flag" or implying that she is somehow less honorable than any other person in the military, don't know what they are talking about. They are the type of people that make the most noise at a church about people sinning, and then go and do the very same thing at home.

Long story short, she was stupid for making it public. But almost everyone else in the military does it as well, there should not be this big a fuss about it.

I'm sure it means nothing to you. You voted for Obama we can fill in the rest.  Maybe if it had a symbol of a dude shoving a bowling pin up another dude butt you'd have some reverence for it.

The most bizarre thing about it is that I'm 100% in agreement with Best.  You tell em girl.

When I was in the military, we always took the easy way out.  I would be far easier to salute the flag than to scrunch down in the car and take a selfie to post on face book.

You know where the 'door' is.  Don't let it hit your ass on the way OUT of America.

So now you care about the stars and stripes? Well when you were brandishing the Confederate flag and proclaiming your "pride in your heritage" did you think about what that flag meant to the stars and stripes? The Confederate flag was a complete rejection of the stars and stripes. It was a symbol of those that wanted to destroy everything that the stars and stripes stood for. Those that carried and waved the Confederate flag burned and spit on the stars and stripes. Your proud heritage.

You are a very confused man Dog. Oh and just so you know...I am not a HIM.

If the Confederacy had won the war the stars and stripes would still be

the flag of this country. Not the Confederate flag.

So where is your proof of the spitting on the stars and strips. Do you even

know the real issues leading up to the war itself? You are so bigoted.

LOL Really? What did I say that was bigoted?

You think that the Confederacy would have flown the stars and stripes if they had succeeded in destroying what it stood for? They wanted to be a separate nation. You do undertand what it means to "secede from the union" don't you? Yes, I know what the real issue was leading up to the Civil War. Have you ever read the letters of secession that the original 7 states wrote?

I was in the Army and never saw people ducking inside to avoid colors.  This was back in the early 90's, I'm not surprised if this is the norm now.

You keep saying this, " if they had succeeded in destroying what it stood for"

" It was a symbol of those that wanted to destroy everything that the

stars and stripes stood for."

Your assumption that the south would destroy the country it's trying to build          is ridiculous. The North saw how more powerful the south had become by

the year 1859-60. The South was worried about losing more states rights.

Texas has recently talked about seceding from the union, you think they

might want to fly some long horn flag.

Yep, you're bigoted and you see everyone else bigoted.

Lets see if I can make some sense out of these ramblings... I will take it a point at a time.

Your assumption that the south would destroy the country it's trying to build          is ridiculous.

That is not an assumption. That is a historical fact. Do you understand what secede means? How do you think the south was not destroying the US if they were trying to break it up?

The North saw how more powerful the south had become by

the year 1859-60. The South was worried about losing more states rights.

What rights would those be invictus? Oh yeah, the right to own human beings and use them as slaves. Only those that want to rewrite history say that the American Civil War was about "states rights". As if that takes away the meaning or definition of those "rights" they were willing to kill other US citizens over.

Texas has recently talked about seceding from the union, you think they

might want to fly some long horn flag.

Speaking of Texas. Here is an excerpt of their declaration of secession from the US.

"We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posteritythat the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable.

That in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rightsthat the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator.'

If thats not enough, then how bout some words from the VP of the Confederacy. Andrew Hamilton Stephens....

The new Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions--African slavery as it exists among us--the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution [...] The general opinion of the men of that day [Revolutionary Period] was, that, somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution [slavery] would be evanescent and pass away [...] Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition.

Yep, you're bigoted and you see everyone else bigoted.

In all your ramblings you have still not shown where I am a bigot. You want to give it one more shot, or do you just want to concede that you threw that out there with no basis at all?
