My son was craving something chocolatey after school today and the only chocolate thing I had in the house was Hershey's syrup. Sadly, someone put the milk jug back into the fridge with about 2 tablespoons of milk this morning and didn't tell me. So, being the inventive kid he is (always mixing flavors, etc.) he asked me if he could put the Hershey's in a glass of OJ. I figured he'd gag and pour it out. But he was delighted instead. It actually tasted just like a Terry's Chocolate Orange in a glass! Just put the same amount of Hershey's syrup in the glass of orange juice as you would the same size glass of milk.

Never would have thought of it though you often find chocolate and orange mixed - like orange creams in those fancy chocolate boxes. I too have an "inventive" child that loves to mix flavors - I shared this and his first response was "we have chocolate syrup and OJ".

SD, I cannot believe you did not have the ingredients to concoct the Turkish Delight drink featured in this weeks's TD food section. I always have a little bit of Turkish delight in the back of the pantry! LOL I am forever amazed at the TD recipes from outer space.

Back in the 60s hippie era, there was a popular non-alcoholic drink called an "Orange Beardsley," which was a chocolate-orange blend of some kind and was very tasty! There was a little avant garde shop on 21st Avenue near the Vanderbilt campus where you could buy this delicacy.

I love the ideas of orange juice and orange soda with ice cream! Sounds like a Dreamsicle! Wish I could have tried one of those Orange Beardsley's. Darn it, I missed the Turkish Delight recipe. Readaholic, did ya'll get to try it (the Hershey's and OJ)? Hit or miss?

My son mixed one up and I must admit to a bit of nervousness on my part but I gave it a taste and found it to be very good! Definitely a hit though my son said it should be an adult drink as the sugar content would send some kids up the wall or maybe that is the parent up the wall after being with a child who has consumed it.

OR, we could go with Creme de Cacao, Grand Marnier, and champagne. Mmmmmmm.

Sounds good to me. I tried a milkshake I saw on Food Network the other day that sounded interesting. It's basically just a chocolate milkshake with 1/2 tsp. of cayenne pepper. They used a strawberry garnish. You don't really taste the pepper, but the drink is hot and cold at the same time. Really strange! I wouldn't want it everyday, but it made for an interesting treat.

My son loves hot stuff and is always adding peppers, spices to things. He makes a cold coffee/chocolate drink and has added cayenne pepper to it and loves it.

Lindt also has a dark chocolate bar with pepper. Let it melt in your mouth and you get a nice, mild burning sensation.

I was watching an episode of Unwrapped recently and some fine chocolatiers are adding hot pepper to some of their chocolates. I'll be sure to try one if I ever get a chance!
