I just want everyone who eats at the Southern BBQ on Pine Street to know that we are NOT moving-the one being built on Huntsville Road is the same franchise but a different owner. And thanks to all our UNA band kids(you know who you are!) that keep coming back year after year! And yes, we do have a small parking lot but remember, we DO have a drive-thru! And all our food is made when you place your order so it takes a few extra minutes, but its worth the wait. And almost all the employees have been there for 20 years so maybe the menu doesn't have corn nuggets(as the other stores might) but with a smaller menu its easier to make our BBQ, beans, slaw and sauce the best in town! And if you care to check our health ratings, you'll find we have consistently scored in the upper 90's for quite some time! Am I proud of our little "hole-in-the-wall" resturant? Yes, because we do our best to serve some of the tastiest BBQ in the area. And I can serve you up some of the best burgers, Chicken tenders and hot dogs in town, too! After all I am a kitchen technician Big Grin So for all our loyal customers, THANK YA'LL!! And we're going to be in our Pine Street shop for quite awhile longer-and don't forget-we've got the bestest sweet tea you'll find anywhere-just ask any UNA band kid!LOL Stay tuned for menu updates-promise I'll post them when I get the word from my boss, Ms Pam!! The food is GOOD,the gals working there are friendly and let you know they appreciate you being there.Customers work around the tight parking lot,on our last visit a fellow came out to offer to move his truck that was parked close to ours.He didn't have to do that,my Bride had plenty of room to get in.That's the kind of people we run into there.Expect a lot,I doubt you'll be disappointed with your visit.
I have always gotten good food and service from Southern on Pine. I have been known to come down hard on places I eat at, service I have received or didnt receive. But I can offer nothing but praise for Southern BBQ. And they have always gotten my order right. We eat there a couple of times a month, so over the last few years, the visits have added up.
Plus, seeing the owner out in public I asked about purchasing some hickory for my personal bbq,..... and she said she would sell a couple of three sticks. She didnt look at me like I was crazy lol..... but I havent purchased any yet.
I always enjoy Southern. I've eaten at three, and the one on Pine is the best. I particularly like their chicken, and while everyone has different taste in fries, theirs are the best around here.

One criticism: they used to carry fried peach pies--the best I've ever eaten. I haven't seen any there in years, and I miss them. I don't need them, but I miss them...
yeah, sorry about the peach pies-you're not the only customer that misses them. It was one of those deals where our vendor didn't have them on a regular basis-as we say in the food biiz, you can't sell what you ain't got!lol But if you like chocolate, try one of those-they're our best seller Smiler and thanks again to all our loyal customers-ya'll make working there worth coming in everyday!

By corn nuggets do you mean the fried Vegetable sticks? Those are one of my favorite things at Southern BBQ. Usually we eat at the Wilson Dam Location due to having more eat in tables and room but we'll give your Pine street location a try but would love to know if you have the fried Vegetable sticks?

Also are your burgers made from hand formed "fresh" patties or are they from pre-packaged pre-formed patties?
gbrk-yes, we carry the veggie sticks and we also have cheese stix and there are both GOOD!! I work there and I love the cheese stix because they're the good chewy ones that when you take a bite the cheese "strings" out. And as for the hambuger patties, they're frozen beef patties but I did a taste test with customers a few years back and I really like the patties I'm using-they're the nice thick ones that really make good burgers-come in and try a jumbo cheeseburger and I'm sure you'll like it. I'm kinda picky about my grill items and if I don't like it, I ain't serving it! Thanks to my boss-she really listens to my input and that of our customers. I appreciate all the input and any questions you have I'll do my best to answer! Once again, thanks to everyone for coming in and hope to see ya'll soon!
I agree yalls cheese sticks are good, what are they Farm Rich? And i know what you mean about the sorry cheese sticks that you bite and the entire cheese comes out then you have left the hollowed out batter, very glad you admit your burgers are frozen because they get a awful rep but i've had great frozen burgers as well as fresh, nice to see local places thrive instead of everything being a chain
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Pine St. Southern BBQ. Found this little place long long ago and used to eat there at least once a week when I worked in town. Still try to get by there every chance I get. I remember when Mr. Reynolds and his wife ran this location and then Pam bought it from him. Seh learned from the master. I am not sure if the other locations were run by him at first. He seemed kinda of gruff when you first met him but then he came around and Mrs. Reynolds was so nice. Pam's been doing BBQ a long time and does it right.
So I'm sitting here in Columbus Ga thinking about how I wish I had a Southern BBQ so I thought I'd google to see if there is a website for this great little place. That's how I found this blog...Anyway...I met my husband at UNA back in the late 80s and for his 21st birthday, I didn't have a lot of money but knew he liked BBQ. I had seen it up the hill on pine and got him one...went great with the brownies I made, too. That was my first experience at Southern BBQ. We went there often when we lived in the Shoals. We talk about it all the time and wish we had one here! We have driven 3 hours and spent the night in Florence JUST to get a Southern BBQ sandwich and veggie sticks. No one makes it like that anywhere else. We were thrilled when we came back with our two daughters to see that Pam had bought the place. I love that it's in the same place and hasn't changed. The only thing I missed was the posters around the dining room with the cute sayings...bet the fire marshall made you take them down, didn't they? They spoil all the fun. We are talking about coming to visit next week...yes, no kidding we really do go back to Florence for the sole purpose of going to see Southern BBQ. While we are there we might go by campus and tell our kids about the old days. Keep up the great work, Pam and staff! Can't wait til my next one!
A big shout out to Ms. Pam and everyone at the "UNA Music Department Dining Hall". I'm sitting here in one of Sarah McLachlan's tour buses, at a repair shop in central New Jersey, having a serious craving for a Plate Mild, No Slaw, Extra Fries....

By the way - one of you ladies left your visor in my tour bus when I stopped by there last summer...I've still got it at home....

I'll be by when I bring the bus back to Florence, whenever that may be. A year is too long to go without some good old Southern..

Floyd
Floyd, I know who's cap got left on the tour bus-sorry bout that! We were kinda excited about being on the Def Leppard bus! lol We've been joking that you've probably been wearing it on the road!! Hey, if you'll get it autographed, you can watch us figt over it the next you make it back to town! Take care and hope to see you soon-your plate is waiting on you! Connie

Just curious, for those that have eaten at the Pine Street Southern BBQ  and also the Wilson Dam Southern BBQ location which of the two do you like best?   I usually end up getting the BBQ Chicken Breast but also like the Pork also and just wondered if there is a difference between the two other than the number of eat-in tables that are at the Muscle Shoals's location.

Last time I went into Southern BBQ, they were not taking ATM cards for payment.  I wonder if that's changed?  Since I never have one red cent on me, it really matters.

The new Ricks in Florence seems to be taking the local market by storm.  Despite complaints on this forum of less meat in their servings, they're very, very busy.  I guess location does matter.

I've never had any complaints about the quality of Southern's food, either.

Rick's is good stuff but Southern has 'em beat.  Rick's has cool architecture and lots of parking, but its the 'Que that counts!
