Then: it was yes sir and no mam
Now: it's nah and yeah

Then: you believed about 10% what politicans said
Now: you don't beleive anything

Then: a preacher did it for the Man Up Above
Now: it's the almighty dollar

Then: country music was about drinking and cheating songs
Now: I have no ideal what it is anylonger

Then: cops used nightsticks, their fist and did it the old fashion way
Now: it's pepper spray, tazzers and computers

Then: when you died you had one or two days of visitation
Now: your put in the grave the next day

Then: you ate what mama fixed and kept your mouth shut
Now: it's where we gonna eat out at

Then: you play ball the in the pasture
Now: it bright lights and big money

Then: you walked to school
Now: you drive to school

Then: you went to a drive-in movie
Now: you rent it and watch it at home

Then: you used window fans
Now: it's air conditons

Then: you rolled down the windows in a car
Now: It's air conditon too

and, of course, if you played your country record backwards -

you get your job back, you wife comes home, you find out it wasn't your dog that died, but it's twin brother from up the road, and the crops you thought were kill by drought come in and produce a bounty crop.

and all rock and roll could offer backwards was satan and a dead but not-dead beatle.
Hi all,

The one that caught my attention is:

Then: you went to a drive-in movie
Now: you rent it and watch it at home

I miss the drive-in movies. I remember in the 1950s when a bunch of us high school guys (mostly jocks) piled in a friend's Hudson Hornet and went to the the drive-in to see a Mario Lanza musical. No jock would be caught dead seeing such a movie today.

And, I recall when I was at Sheffield High, going to the drive-in movie in Muscle Shoals with a date. Never saw the movie -- but, got the shock of my life when the lights came on. All of a sudden I heard, "There's Billy Joe! Hi, Billy Joe!" My aunt, uncle, and cousins were in the car beside mine. Have you ever wanted to crawl under the floor mat?

And, I recall when I first came to Southern California in 1958. McDonald's hamburgers were 15 cents, fries 10 cents. We would pack all the kids in the back of the station wagon (family man's SUV in the 1950s), stop at McDonald's and buy a big bag of hamburgers, fries, and drinks -- and go to the drive-in.

Yes, I miss those days.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Bill,
Not sure if you remember the old King Drive-In in Russellville, but it is still up and running on the weekends...I take the kids down there pretty often. It's like stepping back in time when you go down there, except for one thing that could be added to this list:

Then: You went to a drive-in and hung the speaker on the window
Now: You tune in to the sound on your car radio
