This morning I was driving my daughter to Central school and noticed the state trooper running radar about a mile west of 157 on CR-6 where I've seen him several times. I've NEVER seen the same trooper running radar near a school zone during these times. I've been passed several times driving by Underwood Elem school by drivers speeding through a school zone and have seen people speeding by Central school in the mornings when this trooper is elsewhere. It seems like he's more interested in catching someone doing 55 mph in a 40 zone on CR-6 driving their kids to school than people speeding through a school zone where an accident is more likely. It's very hard for me to belive that it's not just about money. Where is he more likely to write a ticket? hiding out on CR-6 or visable in a school zone making everyone slow to 25 mph?
An optimist sees the glass as half full while a pessimist see the glass as half empty.... Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi simply looks upon your glass as being too big.

What are you worried about if your not speeding? I'm going to let you in on a little secret. When departments get alot of complaints about speeding in certain areas, guess what happens? There are told by their supervisors to write citations in those areas. Why not call the sheriff's department or the AST to voice your complaint instead of peeing in the wind on the forums. I know you can voice your opinion, but I can as well.

If my post offends you, please accept my apology. It's just my opinion, and it really doesn't matter.

He is worried about children getting run over.

You are a wolf in sheeps clothing and do a dis- service to all the good cops. Do you not have a bribe to accept from someone, or some donuts to eat? Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin@crimsonlegacy

BTW Im4U...he is not even a cop...he got a ride home once when he was drunk, now he has a new dream... Wink
My husband is the trooper that was on CR 6 and there were 5 citations issued in less than a hour that morning on CR 6 and they were all for 65 mph and over. I guess that you think that it is more important that they sit in the school zone and make sure that no one has a fender bender in front of the school than it is to make sure that the roads are safe enough for you and your child to make it to the school zone. If my husband was not writing tickets to these people that are driving 20 mph over the posted speed limit then how many doors would he be knocking on to tell someone that their family member will never come home again. That is what these police officers are trying to prevent. So I hope that you see him everyday writing tickets that means that he is doing his job and that the ticket you see him writing may be the one that keeps him from knocking at your door. Have a good day!

Strange coincidence? nah Roll Eyes
I'm not one to say anything negative about LEO's. I am grateful for the job they do and I understand it isn't easy.

Having said that, people drive 65 all over the place and don't "die". There is a difference in patrolling a dangerous area and getting people to slow down and sitting in a spot where the speed limit is unusually low.

I have this problem with the speed limit going from Florence to Athens. The speed limit goes up and down and based on the number of businesses and houses it is pretty random as to why.

So when they patrol that area it is strictly a revenue maker.

Patrolling a school zone is to keep cars driving slowly. Not to avoid a fender bender but to make sure somebody isn't flying down the road when some child decides to dart out in the street to chase a loose piece of paper.

I have no idea where the trooper was this morning and that isn't important. I just think as a trooper's wife you would understand that keeping traffic speeds down in a school zone is more than avoiding a "fender bender". It can potentially save a child's life.

Why in the world would anyone be complaining about a state trooper or any policeman doing his job? If your going the speed limit you should have NOTHING to worry about.

I did see him (or some state trooper) this morning on CR-6 turn around like he was going after someone who appeared to be going about 55 - 60.....this was right after I was passed in front of Underwood school about 7:40 this morning by someone who didn't slow down from about 50 mph to 25 like it is posted. There was no LEO in sight there where parents were dropping off their first graders......
Yea, I heard Russia invaded Georgia....As long as they don't cross the border into Alabama and don't mess with Six Flags too much I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe they'll invade Mississippi next and clean up the litter form the side of the roads and put a stop to all the cousin marrying. Oh, and go through Tennessee and shoot "Fat Phil" while they are at it.

Russia and Georgia don't worry about us when we are in need.

How much support did Russia or Georgia give to Katrina victims? How many Russian or Georgian soldiers are helping our boys in Iraq? How many Russians or Georgians ran to the aid of the 9/11 victims or their families?

We (I) don't "NEED" to think about any of them. They aren't my concern. "YOU" should worry more about your own yard and less about the one down the street - if you know what I mean.

And again - WHY is this in the NEWS section?
This past Monday there was 2 county deputies at and around Underwood School. This is the 1st time I've seen them there since early last school year. I agree though, if there are speeders breaking the law, then bust 'em. But at that time of the morning, there is a school zone with HUNDREDS of people passing through and stopping at the school. It is a no-brainer where they should be! Granted there will be speeders running late. But you have to go where the greatest risks are.
Good grief, More people whining about someone doing their job. Roll Eyes

Like someone else said...You have nothing to worry about if you are following the law! I understand they need to patrol school zones and someone used the "what if a kid went into the road after a piece of paper" arguement. Well, what if a kid was riding his bike down CR-6 or chased a ball into the road on CR-6? What if someone was going to the mailbox on CR-6? What if someone was late for school with their kid in the car trying to pull out of their driveway onto CR-6?

You can "what if" all day long but the fact is the trooper was doing what he was supposed to be doing by enforcing traffic laws. 'nuff said!

WarEagle225, What if you only had a brain?

WCGFFD said this past Monday was the FIRST time they have seen a patrol car near Underwood school since early LAST school year.....meaning 12 months ago. Why will the Alabama State Troopers patrol the school zones near Underwood or Central schools....and I bet it's the same story at other Lauderdale county schools. I do wish they would hide and catch speeders in school zones instead of just parking where they can be seen so people know to slow down, let word get out that you may get caught if you speed through a school zone in Lauderdale county and that will put a stop to it.

WRONG! As a former LEO certified in the use f radar, I was NEVER 'told by a supervisor to write more citations in a certain area'. However, we WERE told to perform 'saturation patrols' of given areas, which, in turn, often generated more citations.

Not Wrong, evidently you haven't worked under some of my supervisors. I believe all supervisors are different. Have you worked at every police department in the country and for every supervisor? How can you say I'm wrong about what I was told?

You know, I must be getting old, because some of this crap on this forum is really beginning to get on my nerves. It goes on and on and on. When will you people just give it a rest? Why don't Crimson Legacy and Jetboy just agree to meet somewhere and just have a good free for all in the middle of Court Street and let's settle this fight once and for all. That appears to me to be the only thing left to do. Ya'll bicker back and forth, fight, argue, accuse, and fuss like two little boys who got their candy licked on. Good grief. If you can't solve it by now, you aren't going to!!!!. Just agree to disagree and let it go or else just have an all out fight and we'll all come and sell tickets and have a concession stand and make a little money for all of us to go to lunch, those of us that get along, that is. Good grief, boys, either put up or shut up, This is just getting ridiculous, don't you have something better to do with yourselves, like, protect our citizens? That is , if you are truly LEO's , as you claim? Drop it or fight it out, Your Decision!!!

I already stated that I was finished with jetboy, and I haven't made a comment to him since. Where have you been? I believe there were several people arguing with jetboy and not just LEO's. I am a LEO, and I'll state again for over 10 years. I can assure you that I don't post while at work, and I do a dang good job protecting the citizens I serve. If you want to know who I am just send me a pm. If you don't like my posts, then DON'T read them. Did they get the patrol car fixed yet?(I do my job without flipping cars!)

NO supervisor concerned with departmental public relations is going to dictate that 'more traffic citations be issued in a certain area'. To do so would have the Mayor's and all the city council members' phones ringing off the hook by an irrate citizenry.

However...a GOOD supervisor WILL order 'saturation patrols' of a given area, and encourage officers to 'enforce all traffic laws'. Not only will such an order produce traffic citations, but it will also generate drug-related arrests.

"I noticed a State Trooper on Old Savannah Hwy (CR 200) parked right before you get to the school zone."

You just made my point! Right before you get to the school zone? Sounds like they are avoiding patroling the school zone to me. Why? Can anyone defend a LEO not patroling the school zone and making an effort to catch speeders, not just sitting in a school zone withtheir lights flashing.
There is not a defense. What could be more important than patroling a school zone?

The problem with cops giving speeding tickets is the way it is done. A person can drive the speed limit and get tailgated everywhere they go. In a 55 mph zone it becomes 65+ as that is what most cars are doing, cops included. Then all of a sudden the cop starts writing tickets for over 55. Why do they not enforce the limit ALL the time. The cycle seems to repeat itself over and over.

This new campaign..."take back our highways", what I posted above is how WE lost them in the first place.

BTW...some of you may be fooled by a troopers wife that just happened to see this thread and knew where her husband was patroling and how many tickets he wrote in a particular day...but I'm not fooled in the least.

I agree, but the keywords you used were a good supervisor. My point was that all supervisors are different. I have worked for many supervisors at previous departments that have said go write citations at a particular location. I believe your post said I was wrong, I simply questioned your comment. I'm not saying your wrong, but I'm not either.

As long as I can remember, they always place patrol cars at the schools at the beginning of the school year to watch the traffic coming and going and the safety of the children riding with their parents or on the bus. Why would you be upset with that? I would very much appreciate it if I had a child in school and there was an officer there watching the traffic and making sure that everyone was abiding by the rules, concerning the coming and going of the traffic and making sure that the kids are safe when going either from the bus or their parents vehicle. I would be glad that they are there, not upset. I just don't understand your point.

I know, the first few days of school (usually 2 or 3) there was a county patrol car parked in front of both schools with their blue lights on warning everyone school had begun. But now none to be found antwhere near a school zone. I just want to know why and other people to ask why. Or will it take some elementry kid to get run over by someone speeding to get it done?
