...let's weigh in on our favorites for the roles in the soon to be cast by Ron Howard! I, like most, find it hard to see anyone but Eastwood in the role of Roland but since he is seemingly not an option can't we "constant readers" find the perfect cast? I have my opinions on some of the major characters but would like to hear your opinions first!

i have not heard that. awesome! i wonder if they are going to attempt to tell the whole story in one movie or split it up?

roland: someone 40-ish and evil and witty and charming.

,,,, OK, i cheated and googled. it appears this is going to be a TV series, not a movie. that certainly limits who will be playing the roles and, honestly, i don't know enough tv actors.

you made my day, though. i can't wait!

It will be a trilogy of movies and 2 seasons of TV. Universal stated the first film will open in May of 2013. Much too long to wait.

Funnily enough before searching more into the movie I thought maybe christian bale or the villian from No Country for Old Men (Javier Bardem) would make a good Roland, these two are rumored to be some of the top prospects. Another rumor is Viggo Mortensen (A history of violence lead). I think Viggo would be a perfect fit IMO.

Casting rumors for sussannah dean are Naomie Harris, Jennifer Carpenter and Ghita Tazi (?). I really like Jennifer Carpenter as an actor (Dexter, Exorcism of Emily Rose, Quarantine), but I would be really disappointed if they don't cast a black female in this role. I think it is really important to the characters history and especially the timeframe that this character comes from. They would have to write an entirely different back story and have different motivations.

It'll be interesting who they will decide to cast for Eddie, I'm drawing a blank on who I would like.

I've just started reading the series and I'm just about to finish Wizard and Glass. So try to keep any spoilers to a minimum. Smiler

i am not immune to the enjoyment of a good fiction story. "the stand" is my fave all-time book and is about the devil versus god. a good writer can suck you into his universe and force you to temporarily believe anything he tells you.

I like Halle Berry for Susanna. That being said, I'm sure as large a cast as is called for, there will be many who are at least partially irritated. Just not Russell Brand for Eddie!

Anyone considered Jeff Bridges for Roland?

You are cracking me up with Russell Brand. Maybe Seth Rogen will get the part of Roland too. That would just be hideous.

They are making a (new) Stand film as well. I hope it's better than that TV movie monstrosity but I don't know how you can cram The Stand into one film just like I don't see how the Dark Tower is going to be three movies and 2 TV seasons.

awesome. he looks the part and is an excellent actor!

honestly, i hope the do a batter job with the end of the story than stephen king did. after all that reading, the ending was a major letdown.

i was hoping to find out what happened to cause the world to "move on" as it did. some nuclear disaster? some supernatural thing? aliens? we never found out. where did the power of the doors into different dimensions come from?

king really disappointed me by leaving so much untold. perhaps a prequel is forthcoming?

I thought from the parallel universe and the fact that Randall Flagg was key in both it was the same "Captain Tripps" from The Stand. At least in my little mind it was. I think the power of the doors was, as Abigail Freemantle might argue, white magic. Of course I have no proof just an idea that stuck in my head. Find "The Sisters of Eluria" and read it while you are at it if you have not.
