NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A strange scream from a woman has been haunting residents living on CR 6101 in Nacogdoches for the past two weeks.

Residents say the scream usually can be heard at night of a women screaming "help me." While no one has pinpointed the origin of the scream, some residents say they have seen a shadow of a woman at night.

So far no injuries have been reported, but Sheriff Jason Bridges says they take situations like this very seriously.

"We've had a couple calls of some people calling in saying they've heard a woman screaming and we went out to the area and of course, we take those calls very seriously when somebody's in danger," Bridges said. " [We] sent all the units out there, going house to house, talking to people, but we cannot pin point where it's coming from."

Bridges says that some people have claimed they have heard the screaming right behind their house, and aren't sure if it's someone really in danger or a joke.

"We don't know if maybe it's an animal that has a high-pitched voice that maybe sounds like its human from a distance. We don't know," Bridges said.

Resident David Henry, 72, says he hasn't heard anything himself, but has heard his neighbors talk about the screams. Yet, he says he thinks it's a joke.

"It is possible cause you know how things are now a days. [Kids] do stuff," Henry said.

The investigation is active and anyone with information is urged to contact the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Department at (936) 560-7794.

That's so weird. I'd never heard them do that before. Kinda sounds like Ralph from The Simpsons to me. LOL

If it weren't for the "help me" part, I would say that it was a screech owl.  They sound like a woman screaming bloody murder.  No words, just horror film like scream.  Add that it happens at night, and behind people's houses - usually more trees in back than front and away from the street lights - and owls make sense.
