Because we still don't let felons vote?

In Alabama 31% of all black men can't vote because they are convicted felons. Most states now allow felons to vote which is part of the reason why it's close in GA and a blowout in Alabama.
If I did my math right there are 370,000 black men with felonies in the state.

Most likely a racist thing. Sure sounds like it.
I'm pretty sure the laws pre-date black voting rights and also keep in mind the prisons being full of blacks is a relative new phenomenon. Their society didn't start deteriorating until the mid 60s. Hows the Democratic party treating you black folks? 15,000,000 aborted.
Phoenix Rising, where in the world do you get the ideas the suppression of black votes by every available means only dates back to the sixties? You remember the Scottsboro Boys? Remember the loitering laws that put black men in the coal mines as prisoners for hire at the beginning of the 20th century? You are pretty transparent.

we're also one of the fattest states. have some of the worst schools. have one of the lowest high school graduation rates. one of the poorest states in the union. have one of the highest rates of teen pregnancies. have one of the highest STD rates. i guess being the reddest of the red fits right in.

Hi Adam,
When I graduated from Sheffield High in 1955 -- we had 106 in our senior class. We had 105 graduate -- and number 106 fell back and graduated the following year. I would say that is a pretty good graduating record.
Would you say that this means we should go back to the morals and teachings of fifty years ago?
By the way, the one guy who did not graduate with us -- was because he did something which called for him to apologize to a teacher. He would not apologize -- so, he was not allowed to graduate with us.
Now, I would say that most all schools could benefit from that level of discipline and standards today.

I don't get it. Alabama is an ultra-conservative state, has a very high church attendance rate, and carries Conservative party candidates nationally and on a state level (Democrat or Republican - we have virtually NO socially liberal elected officials). Still, the following is true:

The suggestion that we turn back the clock 50 years is absolutely foolish. It will not happen. In fact, it is impossible, unrealistic and sentimental dreaming. Instead of longing for the past why not examine the models that work in other states and apply those models to our own?
