Here's one: I don't know if this constitutes a rule, but I charged some things on a 6-month, no payment, interest free, Home Depot credit. The rule was, I didn't have to make a payment for 6 months. After the second month, I started getting bills. Then saying I was late and late charges added when I didn't pay right away. Constant phone calls bugging me to make a payment. I became so disgusted that I went to the store, explained the situation and asked why they were bothering me when I had 4 more months to pay. I told them to stop them from bothering me, I would just go ahead and pay it off. They waived the interest and finance charges and I paid it off in full. Now I am still getting bills for late charges, no matter how many times I call them, each month they add late charges to the unpaid late charges. It started at $5 and is now up to $20.
Why do they make special offers if they aren't going to honor them??? arrrr
I can beat this, I have a 6 months no payment and 5 year no interest deal with Ashley Home Furniture (through citibank). I started paying on it the first month, set it up on autopay in my online bill pay to pay enough each month to pay off in just less than 5 years. When the 6 months was up, I had made a payment each month on the 1st or 2nd. Well, citi sent my payment due notice out the day after I made that months payment, due by the 23rd of that month (So, I made payment each month at the beginning of the month for what should have been due on the 23rd of that month.) Because I made the payment a day before it was invoiced, it did not count for that first month and my following month payment was considered a week late payment for the previous month. Because this was on autopay, I was not checking the bill every month (like I should) and did not catch it until the third late fee (my payment was supposedly coming in a week late every month.) Of course, they were sticking those fees on the end of the note.
Upon calling citi, they said they would fix it and take off all the fees because they could 'see' where I had made a payment each month. But they did not do that until I made him say aloud 'we are billing you a late fee because you made your payment a day too early each month.' Once he said it out loud, I think he realized how stupid it sounded.
