Not only do we have to pay for others to treat them, house them, feed them, and in some cases supply them with their drugs, now they want us to buy the drugs and be their emt. Then after you save their life they can sue you and get more money to buy drugs.

The nation's chief doctor wants more Americans to start carrying the overdose antidote naloxone to help combat the nation's opioid crisis and save lives.

Speaking at the National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit in Atlanta on Thursday morning, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams issued his office's first national public health advisory in 13 years.

Adams said he hopes those who are at risk — as well as their friends and family members — will keep the antidote on hand and learn how to use it.

"You don't have to be a policeman or a firefighter or a paramedic to save a life," said Adams, who pointed out that more than half of opioid overdose deaths in the U.S. occur at home.

According to federal data, more than 42,000 Americans suffered fatal opioid overdoses in 2016, more than double the number who died in 2010.

Naloxone can restore a person's breathing after it is injected or sprayed in the nostrils, quickly bringing overdose victims back from near-death.

The drug, which is often referred to by the brand names Narcan or Evzio, is available over the counter in most states and is regularly used by first responders across the country.

Adams said 95 percent of all insured Americans are covered to purchase naloxone. Narcan nasal spray, one of the most widely available products, can cost around $80 for one dose. Generic, injectable versions of naloxone are cheaper.

prayers for families with an addict. However our resources are stretched to trillions in debt. Who are we going to cut out of the budget? Other countries? Illegals?  refugees?  drug users?  food stamps?  welfare?    Or maybe just tax the working class more?   Could steal more from the rich, after all how dare they get rich.

I remember America when the rich paid their fair share. We went to the moon. We built bridges and roads. We lead the world in technology. It was great. Then came the 'napkin policy' for Republicans and Reagan. The US has been fighting to get back since the day Reagan cut taxes and busted the first Union.

So many places to cut. One, stop allowing relatives to be paid for caring for their own family. Stop paying $22.00 an hour for babysitters for women on goverment assistance. Stop giving money to adoptive parents. Police section 8 more so only the needy get it, and they aren't allowed to rent out rooms or space on their couch. Thousands of places to cut, programs to cut.

Wabbit, when the rich paid their fair share?   Oh come on your smart enough to figure out that the rich pay most fed taxes.  what is fair share?  we don't have a tax challenge we have a spending challenge.  Sadly welfare pays better than Social Security does.  And majority on Social Security paid in 40 plus years more than fed emp. or teachers or state emp. worked for fat pension payments

Latest stats are that the top 20 percent of earners will pay 87 percent of the income tax.  You're welcome!

Nice try at switching the topic to 'income tax' but that's not the issue. Estate taxes and Dividend taxes are how the 'rich' avoid taxes. And the Corporate tax rate is a joke. Republicans are back on the 'napkin theory' of economics. It didn't work the 20 years we had if from Reagan and Bushes and it still won't work, today, but the Republicans can't help themselves and have to double down, yet again.

This article plainly states it's encouraging people who have opioid addicted friends and family to carry Narcan or something similar. It's not suggesting everyone carry it.

I know some people couldn't care less about others, but I would be happy to save someone's life - not go through his billfold to determine if I though he was worthy.

I know only too well that some people couldn't care less about others. I see it every day and it's very evident by the number of babies that are slaughtered each year by abortions. I'd be happy if those lives were saved, or not irresponsibly begun in the first place, only to end up dying in an abortion slaughterhouse. No idea what the billfold crack is about, but as Kraven posted, some think it's OK to let the billfold decide who gets the transplant.

I believe you just posted this to the wrong topic. This is about Narcan administration. The one on liver transplants is under the Trump Tower fire heading.

Of course, that was just an offshoot too. I personally don't think i'm the one to say who lives or dies so I'm glad I'm not on a hospital transplant committee. Perhaps some here would like the job?

It's fine where it is.
