Just not enough of a selection of produce, meats, bakery items, frozen items, for my taste. Also absolutely no gourmet items, no salad bar, etc. IMHO, Foodland and SFM are just your basic milk, egg and loaf bread stores, like Piggly Wiggly.
thats what i figured you meant. i would love that too..just doesnt seem to be that much of a demand around here though. fresh market in Huntsville has all those items you listed. but they tend to be really high as far as the meats and gourmet stuff goes. i think the costs of those items would be what would keep a store like that out of this area. madison however has the people who are willing and can afford to buy it.

I'm afraid you're right. I just don't have the time to drive an hour to go the grocery store. Frowner
this makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. from the article:

Self said the dealership's service and parts departments will remain open, so anyone who has a Suzuki still can go to the location.

so, they will have personnel on premises, and the property is still going to be active. why not have a dozen or so cars on the now empty lot, and a single salesperson sitting in the now empty showroom, and be available if someone DOES want to make a purchase? its not like they aren't gonna be paying rent/power/property taxes anyway.

Pardon my ignorance. I don't know anything about unions. So, Kroger doesn't have a union and the people here insisted on one, or Kroger does have a union and the people here dont want it. What did you mean by your statement?

Dealers finance using "Floor plan" credit. when the car is sold, then the loan is paid off. If it doesn't sell then its eventually is repossessed. By reducing the amount of floor plan loans they have they save money, and lessen the chance of default. They'll probably keep one or two for test drives, and if a sale is made they can have one in from Huntsville the next day.

The local workers demanded and sided with a union, and Kroger closed the stores in the Shoals area rather than give in to their demands.

Ahhh....somebody DOES remember! Wink
Yea I remember that from years ago because my mom wouldn't cross the picket line to shop at Kroger -- so we went to Food World instead...I'd forgotten all about that...

I hate that for the Suzuki dealership though -- there were some good people that worked there -- I hope they were able to make plans and had some warning this was going to happen. I knew they were having trouble a while back but I didn't realize it was that bad.

Yea, it's a bloody shame how the union closed down Shoals Suzuki. Those selfish workers are getting what they deserve. They will probably shut down the entire Suzuki corporation as well. Roll Eyes

Used to be. It was all pretty much dissolved last year. GM owned a portion of Suzuki, and they both co-own Daewoo (GMDAT)who makes the Forenza and Reno. If you go to Canada or some parts of Europe, those cars are Chevys for example.

Suzuki discontinued those cars in the US last year in preparation to bring more of their own cars here in the next couple of years, and paid GM to drop the 10% or so ownership that they retained in the company. Really, the only thing thats left of that relationship is the GMDAT ownership, and Suzuki still uses GM's parts network to distribute parts around the country.

Some of the newer cars that Suzuki has plans for is the 2010 Kizashi, which is to compete with the Camry and Malibu and the Equator, which is a rebadged Nissan Frontier.

The Suzuki Store in Decatur closed last year.

Thanks elrod and apologies to Bernie. The web site I looked at still showed a dealership there. After checking with the Suzuki web site, I find that many Suzuki stores have closed. Must be a bad time to be in the Suzuki business.
