They are in the process of training as of today and their opening is supposedly to be within the next two weeks or so but from the outside the restaurant looks great.  One of the employees, at the door, gave me a copy of a menu so I thought I'd post it for everyone to see.  Their pricing is pretty much in line with Rosie's and Taco Garage, once you break it down, but some items are a little higher such as queso and chips which for the large is $8.00 for a bowl and $6.00 for the smaller size.  At Rosie's I believe the price is around $6.50 for a large bowl and somewhere around $4.50 for a small but I could be wrong.

As for the tacos their price for two at Taco Mama is $9 for Chicken and $10 for Steak but that comes with chips, salsa and one side.  At Taco Garage they are ordered individually and Chicken tacos are $2.50 where Steak are $3.50 each and at Rosies your can get a create your own platter with three selections (taco, enchilada, etc,) and rice and beans (two sides or one salad) so Rosies is a little less expensive.  Taco Mama's disadvantage (the degree to be determined) is more it's location whereas Taco Garage is on Mall Road across from the Mall and Rosie's is Downtown Florence.

I hope all three locations and businesses do very well and prosper in the area and I know Rosies and Taco Garage are terrific and very good so I don't expect any different from Taco Mama and I know many people brag about the Taco Mama franchises that they have ate at.

I don't see Rosie's losing that much business to them due to location and size. I do see Taco Mama shutting down Taco Garage and El Pollito Loco. The owners have already pretty much declared war in press releases, and I believe they can back it up. Both Garage and Loco are pretty new and don't have the long-time following Rosie's does. Mix that with the restroom/hygiene problems I've heard about at Garage and Loco, and I don't see them lasting long.

I will give Taco Mama a try but I don't see them putting a dent in Rosie's business and if so only for a short duration. the El Pollito Loco has been around for a few years and they do have a following so I don't see them being put out of business from this new place.  The Taco Garage, like you say has only been around for a short time but their location and the concept of their being may keep them around for a little while anyway.

Of the three my speculation is that the Taco Mama is only going to flourish at times when there is something going on at the nearby brewery, They are the one's that I would be questioning their longevity. time will tell.

Don't forget the new (hasn't opened yet), Mexican themed, restaurant that is to open in the old Shoney's building, next to Popeyes.  It's been in process of opening for so long that I wonder if the people opening it have decided to fold.  From what I was told it was going to be more like Blue Coast Burrito and a restaurant we don't have here yet called Moe's but the parking lot is still a mess and there seems to be no work going on in the building.  As I said before I think they may have had second thoughts about opening it after all but the folks at Popeyes believe they are still going to open one day.

I hope that they have not gone under because I thought they served a good product so I would hope they just decided to close on Sunday, like Rosies and some other restaurants.  Sadly though, especially since they had not closed  on Sundays before and this being a holiday weekend it doesn't bode well and they might be closing.  I always thought Frostbites and Montegues (spelled that wrong) and the other restaurants they had in that area was good and I think were all owned buy the same person/folks.  If they didn't last, being as good as they were, then El Pollito loco may suffer the same fate.  Sometimes being good and popular aren't always a guarantee that the owner is able to maintain the business.   I think of Pizza Marina which was over on River Road originally and what a great pizza product they had and how immediately popular they were.  So popular that, from what I've been told, the owner of the building they were in raised the rent greatly causing them to move to a Killen location and not to long afterwards actually closed down.

Like you I hope they haven't closed but we should know fairly soon.  I do know that Taco Mamma opens this Tuesday, day after Memorial Day so along with Taco Garage and the other Mexican venues there is a huge amount of competition.  Could also be the reason that the "new" restaurant that was supposed to be in the old Shoney's building by Popeye's Chicken has seemingly decided not to open its doors.

I've been told Taco Mama will open Tuesday, day after Memorial Day Holiday, to the public.  ONE HUGE drawback (my own opinion)  and detriment to the new business will be, I believe, the parking situation.  From what the folks, at Taco Mama say it will be "Street Parking only".  This will mean that parking will be severely limited, and at a premium, and it will especially be rough on handicapped patrons who may have to pass up the place all together due to access difficulty.   I don't know how parking will work on the closed street between Taco Mamma and the Singing' River Brewery or if that road will ever be opened to Dr. Hicks, the main road.  Either way parking will be an issue at Taco Mama, at least in my opinion.
