Well of course it did. The STATED target of the 9/11 attacks was the Economy of the United States. The twin towers was just to get Bush's attention.
Al Queda has been more successful in destroying our economy than Bush was in "Ben Laden- Dead or Alive".

The first attack on the WTC came under clinton's "watch", and he was told point blank that in the next attack the towers would fall. What did he do? NOTHING. Now then, did Katrina hurt the economy? Did the Barney Frank's and Chris Dodd's Fanny Mae scam hurt the economy? We will never get out of this mess because the democrats keep digging the hole and blaming it on Republicans. The United States is nothing but democrats "money pit".

Could it possibly be due to a decrease in payroll taxes which was established under the 111th congress????????? Let the spin cycle begin!!! Roll Eyes

Do you own a car mister "I'm not posting anymore"? With the "it's Bush's fault" gas price increase I'm bringing home less.

The "rich" are no longer the same "rich" that they once were. Those who would like to become informed about who the truly rich are and how their actions affect the lower classes should buy a copy of the January/February issue of The Atlantic and read the article by Chrystia Freeland, "The Rise of the New Ruling Class: How the Global Elite is Leaving You Behind."

Read the article and see why such blather as the parable that opened this string is worthless to explain the current economy and its implications for the rich, the middle and lower classes, national tax policy and the entire economic construct on which the world is becoming grounded in the 21st Century.

OR--you can ignore or ridicule this post, act as though nothing is changing, and continue to ignorantly support the "rich" in reliance on a "trickle down" concept that just does not compute in today's world!

By not disproving the first post, you prove that it is true, so you are the idiot. The facts got you so mad all that you could do was call me a name.

Americretin, it is YOU are the idiot. Because a particular contention is not disproved by a limited audience to whom it is exposed does not, by any rational system of analysis, make that contention correct.

Pure logic shows the pure stupidity of your argument.

I think I'll go with ignore.

I think the problem is that the defintion of "rich" is too confusing. Ask everyone on this board, and you will get a hundred different answers. For some, the term rich only includes those who make one dollar more than the person to whom you are talking.
The government wants to classify all of those making more than $250K as "rich" and bastardize those as the ones causing the trouble. In reality the uber-rich, those making millions per year, will not pay any more in taxes, even if you shift the scale. They have ways of protecting their money. Those of us who make a little more will pay a heck of a lot more, and in it there is no incentive to work harder. Why should I work harder to pay more? I was bron to a family of parents who barely graduated HS, and work in prodcution plants their entire life (LazBoy, Esco, Levis, etc) and I know how hard it is to make a living doing this. I am self employed and have the same problems that my parents had, just on a bigger scale. A son whose prescription medicine costs $9,000 per year. Health insurance with a $2500 deductible that costs almost $900 per month. School loans, car insurance, taxes....the same thing everyone else has to deal with, yet if you listen to the government, I am the bad guy.
It has turned me from every politcal party, and I am tired of the increasing tax burdens, without the representation. When is enough...enough????

Congratulations, you are an overcomer.
The average income in the country is around $35,000 / year.
You are not the bad guy in this equation because your income exceeds a quarter of a million dollars a year, but you have surly been blessed. In addition, at that income level, you have faired very well in this current economic downturn.
Many of the rest of us did not do so well, and most of us will never make as much as you, so you are fortunate. You have gotten more, and therefore according to Scripture, more is required.
Again congratulations on your at least quarter million dollar a year income.

I assure you that I more than exceed my obligations, but the point I am trying to make is that as surely as I am blessed, for I know that I am, I too have the same problems as my parents, and the same as every other guy or gal out there who is trying to make do for their family.
It is not right to think that because one has more it is his or her duty to share it with others. A percentage of more is still more, without having to increase the percentage.
If one has $20000 and the first $10000 is exempt, and he pays 10% tax on this money, he is paying only $1000.
If one has $200000 and the first $10000 is exempt, and he is taxed at 10%, he pays $19000.
That is fair, but now instead what the government wants to do is increase the amount for the one who makes more to 14%, which may not sound like much, but equates to $26600.
There is no incentive for the one who makes more to work harder, and try to save for himself or his family. The more he or she works, the more they are taxed, so in the end it is a self defeating act that will destroy incentive.
A fair tax, or flat tax is much more constructive for businesses. It allows you to know up front what to expect, without some nasty surprise in the first of theyear when you try ot figure out how much you still owe due to changing tax codes.

What a crock, yes he is blessed but he also took the extra step of working for it. Like teyates I too sacrificed and worked my way thru college at nights and weekends while most of my friends were out parting. It is naive to think that if you have no special skills that you should have the same standard of living as people who have or have taken the chance and started a business.

You guys are beginning to give me an inferiority complex. Am I the only poster on here whose income does not exceed a quarter of a million dollars. Hell , now I understand why so many of you are Republicans. My opoligies for all I have said in the past, I thought you were just nuts, now I learn you are all rich.

Nope, not even close. I just think that a flat tax rate would be better for all concerned. A flat tax would increase my taxes. I would gladly pay the increase to not have to hear that the rich don't pay their fair share. Again, look at the tax tables. The example give in the first post is based in fact not fiction. Prove it wrong if you can.

Wealthy people like the system we have now, based on the fact that there is no push to change the current basic system with its many avenues to tax avoidance.

Typically that comes from "rich" folks who don't have true income anymore. The capital gains tax, which is still idiotic, is much lower for wealthy people compared to taxes on income.
