I am guessing the Princess Diana story that was on the front page made you just as upset.

Were you just as upset when yesterday, troops were not on the cover. How about the day before that and the day before that.

Were you just as upset when the 8th Platoon of the 678th unit in Sheffield left a few weeks ago and there was little coverage? How about the 7th Platoon leaving a few weeks before them. At least the Mayor of Sheffield showed up for that.

Are you just as upset that most papers only contribute small sections dedicated to the military?

So please stop it. This man, love him or hate him, was one of the most popular entertainers in the world. And as for solo artist, there are only a handful that can say they reached that level.

I'd like to see the names of American troops killed in the Mid East listed daily to keep America's young military on the news front instead of buried in the back pages. They deserve so much more than given them. Michael Jackson? Arrrggghhhhhhhh

My stand is for the American military troops wherever they serve, mostly un-noticed and unappreciated. These young men and women are true icons.

Where have you been? The military (and first responders) are only ever seen as heroes in this country where there is a tragedy. You know this, I know this, hell we all know this. Those that protect and sever come second to last when it comes to be called icons. Before 9-11, how many people said it was their duty to serve? Before 9-11 how may politicians wore a US Flag lapel pin? Not that many.

I know there are troops in Bosnia. Hell, I spent New Years Eve night in 1999 in a dang guard tower, with no windows, and a cold turkey sandwich, on Eagle Base. As a matte of fact members of the 678th in Sheffield were there in 2004. No press coverage of that. We live in a society where celebrities are "whats news." It wont change until people change. You know it news when Micheal Jackson is the "talk of the town" on FOX News. Big Grin

I can't afford to start my own newspaper!!! The majority of the citizens don't really care. I mean yeah they have their flags and pins but if people really cared about defending this country the armed forces would have more than (give or take) 1% of the US population within its ranks. If people really cared there would never be a shortage of first responders. If people really cared they would demand Congress members that allow troops to go to war with out gear to step down. If people really cared they stand up against troops having to purchase their own body armor. If people really cared they would demand the DOD stop attempting to charge shot and wounded troops for their gear that is lost in battle.

Stepping down off of the soap box now.

I couldn't agree more!!!!
Crap, you should've seen the LA morning news this morning. Jackson, Jackson, Jackson ad nauseum. Seven channels playing Michael Jackson on Sirius. I changed it to Blue Collar Comedy where Larry the Cable Guy made a joke about...Michael Jackson.

People we milling around the "Michael Jackson" star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; problem is, it was the wrong Michael Jackson. The singer's star was covered up for a premier; this MJ is a radio announcer here in LA. And he's still alive. They had coverage from his house in Bel Air, from another family home, from UCLA medical center...all over.

They had aerial shots of Jackson's body (all wrapped up) being loaded into a helicopter to take to the coroner's office. I suppose it wouldn't be safe to drive along surface streets, lest some deranged fans try to retrieve relics.

I was waiting for some actual news, but all I got was Michael Jackson.
