You can call it whatever you'd like if it makes you feel better, but the truth is the truth.

I've read all the stories about his "handlers" and his recruitment and, even if he was a Bama signee, it would still throw up a red flag too me. Does it not too you?
I've read it too, and the reality is that Bama wanted this kid as bad as anyone else. He just didn't want them. If he had signed with them you'd be excited. His handler is a question mark that the NCAA has already looked into and it is resolved. It never affected this kid's eligibility and that is why the other schools never stopped recruiting him.

It's a shame that Bama fans can't be big enough people to tip their hat to another team when they have some success. Typical, but still a shame.

You need to re-read my post.

Congrats to UT, maybe they can handle it. IMO there's too much baggage there. The potential trouble in the locker room outweighs the potential on the field. Suffice it to say, I'm glad he's at UT and not UA.

We're both glad this kid is at UT. That's not jealousy, that's just the truth. It's a shame UT fans can't handle the truth. Wink

Fair enough, midnight. And your right that it's a good thing he didn't go to UA, since they are already in trouble again. Guess it's a good thing he waited long enough to announce so he knows what was withheld from other recruits (the NCAA infractions).

I don't see Bama on that list.
This may be why.

Or this.

All I can say is good luck.

You have to be sick and/or delusional to brag that Alabama is not on this kid's list. 1) He was originally recruited by Alabama along with about 50 other schools, and he culled the Cheaters off his list when he narrowed his choices; 2) Bama is in trouble AGAIN as we speak so you don't have the credibility to point your fingers at anyone, especially a situation like this where the NCAA already checked it out and gave it the thumbs up; and 3) At the time the NCAA started looking into the handler (not this kid as you claim) THEY WERE IN TUSCALOOSA checking out more potential violations. Sorry if reality bites you in the rear end, but that's just life.

Here are some lists that I DID find your beloved Cheatin' Tide on, probably the reason this player marked you off the list early:

You'll also find Bama at #1 on the list of Most NCAA Major Infractions (4 and counting) in the last 20 years.

Dirty, dirty, dirty. No wonder even free textbooks wasn't enough to get Mr. Brown interested.
That's funny...morality lessons from Knoxvegas.

That's one thing UT will never have to worry about...football players and textbooks. Big Grin

Most UT fans hope the NCAA stops that coach-killing juggernaut down at Tuscaloosa...cause the Vols sure can't. Smiler

A rose is a rose, whether it's a Bama rose or a Tennessee rose it still smells the same. Now what gives one more pause...giving textbooks too football players, or the BB story?

This thread stared out as a UT fan bragging about getting the #1 recruit, but after finding out fans from other schools are thankful he's at UT, you seem to be overly concerned with textbooks at Alabama. Perhaps UT fans should worry more about their headcoach and what goes on in Knoxville than Tuscaloosa.
I'm really disappointed. There was a time when Bama fans knew how to bring an argument. Those days seem to be gone.

Now it's just:
1) (ignoring that Bama is constantly in trouble, including now) Accuse others, like Tennessee who has the lowest number of major infractions in the SEC except for Vandy, of cheating;
2) Say things like "yeah, he was the #1 recruit in the country but we didn't want him anyway (akin to the "Yeah, I don't really WANT to date Jessica Alba" argument);
3) "We have too many good players already so he doesn't want to come here." FYI let the record show that the #1 overall RB (Brown) AND the #1 all-purpose RB (Oku) have BOTH chosen UT, who has 3 returning backs already, in the last 2 weeks.

You guys really need to step it up. What about your 24 national championships? Can't you at least throw that out there?

1) I didn't see where anyone accused UT of anything. Your paranoia is showing. We all know they're the shining light on the hill. Roll Eyes
2) I never said he wasn't the #1 recruit in the country. I simply stated that I would be wary of him and posted links as too why. I don't know if Bama recruited him, or why they stopped. Apparently you do. Personally, I'm glad he's at UT...and I mean that sincerely.
3) It all starts in the trenches. Having the best running backs in the country means little if you don't have an offensive line.
ol signees
Funny...I don't see UT on that list.

A rb does not a team make.
a team

You are obviously proud of UT for signing BB and just want an "attaboy". Well "attaboy". You take the best rb, I'll take the best team, and come the third saturday in October, we'll find out which is better.

As far as jealousy and arrogance go, it's pretty arrogant to think anybody would be jealous of anything that happened in Knoxville.

Now, remind me again, was this thread about UT signing the #1 recruit or is it about Bama?

I remember the good ole days (pre-Hootie Ingram) when fans of other schools were "allowed" to talk football in the presence of Bama fans. Oh well.

Who is the author and what are his credentials and does he have any affiliation with the media?

OK, let's talk football.

Who is BB going to run behind? UT has only been in the top 25 in ol signees once in the last 4 years (#14 in 2006). I guess that's one of those "chicken and egg" questions. Does the back make the line, or does the line make the back? Which would fare better, a great back behind a mediocre line, or a good back behind a great line?

See no bashing of UT or name-calling, just an observation of recruiting trends. I would think they would need some good offensive linemen every year, but that's just me, but heck, with all these great backs, they may not need any.
Yep, OL is the point of emphasis for a lot of the work this Spring. That group is an enigma. Regardless of the recruiting rankings, UT has been an OL factory for the NFL for last couple of decades. The year before last they were arguably the best OL in the country (no sacks allowed all season), then last year Clawson implemented that stupid flip-flop system and it shot them to (heck). Depth will definitely be an issue too there this year. The coaching staff has tried to address it by:

1) Returning to the blocking and substitution styles that the OL thrived under before;
2) Moving some guys to the OL from other positions; and
3) Bringing in a very well-respected OL coach from the NFL to coach 'em up.

I guess for now that's about all they can do. Time will tell if the light switches back on and they return to elite form, or if they continue to struggle. It would be difficult for them to be worse than last year.

The short recruiting season this year meant virtually all of the quality QBs and OL-men were already firmly committed by the time the staff was put together. As Bama fans know better than anybody, coaching changes have the effect of setting recruiting back. They got the speedy playmakers they wanted this year, and next year's #1a & #1b priorities will be QB and OL. We're on the short list for several of the top Tackles next year, os that's a positive sign.

FYI the signing of Bryce Brown and David Oku have got UT a visit from Blake Bell, one of the top QBs in next year's class so that's a nice fringe benefit.
