Does anyone understand what the 'federal reserve bank' is?

On edit...After reading the above question...I am not trying to talk 'down' to anyone...just asking a question.

It has nothing to do with the government. It's a private company made up of rich, powerful families that actually control what goes on in this country. And all this time people thought it was Congress and the President.
While Democrats and Republicans are fighting it out, they're the puppeteers off stage making them dance.

Wrong !!! Research it, the Federal Reserve is a private institution owned by member banks. Who do you think owns the majority shares of these member banks. It receives no funding from the federal government.
Here's a link: http://www.worldnewsstand.net/today/articles/fedprivatelyowned.htm

and if you don't believe this, go to your local library, do some research, and post what you find out.

I'll jump in here in a little bit. I would like to add for now though...there are a lot of people really glad that the U.S. citizen is so concerned with the Mexicans and wallmart/China right now. And yes Midnightrider...you are correct about the FRB.

The federal reserve bank is made up of twelve districts, and member banks. What it amounts to is a liquidity Fund for the member banks. Using a portion of the value of the deposits in the individual banks, The banks borrow from one another to maintain adequate cash supplies for their day to day oprations. The Federal Reserv Bank Board of Governors set the interest rate for these loans between banks. It is important that such a system be available because contrary to Urban Myths to the contrary, the government cannot just create cash out of thin air. this is a map of the districts:

this is an set of FAQ's about the bank.explanation: http://www.federalreserve.gov/generalinfo/faq/faqfrs.htm

I agree with you, I was thinking of the world bank. do you know much about the world bank? if so please share your thoughts on it.
Banks
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous
to our liberties than standing armies. Already they
have raised up a moneyed aristocracy that has set
the Government at defiance. The issuing power should
be taken from the banks and restored to the people to
whom it properly belongs.
Thomas Jefferson

If the American people ever allow private banks to
control the issue of their money, first by inflation
and then by deflation, the banks and corporations
that will grow up around them (around the banks),
will deprive the people of their property until their
children will wake up homeless on the continent
their fathers conquered.
Thomas Jefferson

The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our
Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their
destruction... I sincerely believe that banking
institutions are more dangerous than standing
armies; and that the principle of spending money
to be paid by posterity
... is but swindling futurity on a large scale.
Thomas Jefferson
