Me and my wife and friends all went out to Texas Road House to eat. Of course, we had to wait two hours to get a seat. But, I guess it was worth it. We enjoyed our meal and enjoyed the atmoshpere. It's not something I would do every weekend. I think they need to build a second Texas Road House. Someone was telling me that Willie Nelson was part owner or either had stock in Texas Road House. We really enjoyed it.

I don't do the two hour wait real well. A few minutes is ok, a half hour is tolerable. More than that, and I'm gonna go somewhere else.

I ate there with some family after it had just opened up. The food was good...the service only medeocre. Probably will give it another try.

Their website lists Willie as a "friend", and says they are a sponsor on his 2006 tour.
Loved the food...the service was lacking, and all I can say about that weird thing that they do or used to do (its been awhile- we have 2 small kids the 2hour thing can't happen much)with dancing on one particular song is plain annoying. If I ever had wanted somebody's butt in my face it sure wouldn't be while I had my kids with me or while I was trying to eat.

To pick up on the Ricatoni's conversation:
If you or someone in your family is a decent cook, almost all of their food can be easily cooked in your own home with a MUCH lower price! One hint is that you can buy some of their products (the herb mixture used with the bread, the balsamic vinegar used in various recipes, and so forth) at local retail establishments. Yes, they've gone public with those. The rest of their recipes are pretty obvious.

Want the bread they serve? Just go to a grocery store and get a french loaf or, better yet, a french baguette if you can find one. If you prefer, you can make your own garlic bread. Then buy the herbs, mix in a little black pepper and top with a dash of olive oil and you have your dip! While you're at it, look at the ingredients on the back of the herb mix and make your own the next time. EASY.

They have great ravioli with a wonderful sauce. Want to know the secret to the sauce? Add some cream (or half & half) into the tomato base you use. A simple way is to start with tomato paste or puree, then add cream to your taste, then blend. Top with some salt & pepper & throw in a little basil and/or oregano and garlic for flavor. You can serve it over the ravioli you by frozen in the store. No one will know the difference, because there isn't any!

The pizzas are no secret either. The "wood-burning stove" is "supplemented" with gas. Just find a pizza recipe you like and make it at home with about the same results.

Also, the servers and cooks talk. Ask them what the "secret" ingredient is, and you'll probably find out. All of this isn't to say that it's not worth going to Ricatoni's. There's something to be said for atmosphere, being waited on, and not having to hang out over a kitchen stove all day! But in a pinch, your average cook can do just as well for a lot cheaper.

1. Rick is insane and a jerk
2. Go to Carraba's if you want the same food as you find at Ricatoni's (or visit your local grocer's freezer section ~ 90% of Ricatoni's food comes straight outta the walk-in-freezer)
3. Go to my mama's if you want real Italian food

I'm not Italian, but I did work there. And yes, I agree 100%. Something I mentioned in my earlier post: want ravioli? Go buy it frozen at Sam's and then make your sauce. You'll be richer for it. Big Grin

You would be hard pressed to find a restaurant that is any different from your above description. If it can be cooked, it can be cooked at home.

Some may think this a little odd, but thats why I DON'T go there, the stupid commercials

Not odd at all, I won't go ther for the same reason.

I guess it makes sense since the opposite is true (commercials can influence one's decision to go to a restaurant).

Personally, however, I think it's a bit odd not to go to a restaurant based on a commercial. If you like the food, eat it. If you don't, go somewhere else.

True, yet sometimes the difference is cooking from scratch versus thawing and mixing from the freezer. Depending on a particular restaurant's cooking methods and recipes, cooking from scratch will get you the same food, but with the same hassle. As far as Ricatoni's goes, the second option is quite likely to provide you with the same food really quickly. There is a difference.
