Evidently I opened a can of worms when I started a discussion regarding the killing of the Robbins boy a couple of weeks ago. It has now been deleted. That only confirms my belief that something is being covered up.

Yes, I know the people involved and I know the family of the boy who pulled the trigger that put two bullets in that young man's heart. I have nothing but pity for them because I know they are suffering because of their son's behavior. As a mother, I too am willing to go to any length to protect my children. But I have also learned that sometimes, the best "protection" I can give them is to hold them accountable for the choices they make. There is a big difference between "helping" and "enabeling". Yes, their son was hurt also. But the fact remains that if guns had not been involved, those two boys would have probably "duked it out" the way young guys used to do and both would still be alive today. Bruised, maybe, but alive.

And that brings me back to my original thoughts in starting a discussion in the first place. Every time I pick up a paper I read about someone else being shot and killed. It used to be Birmingham or Atlanta, but not anymore. It is right next door. "Kids" ... and by kids I include anyone in their 20's and sometimes beyond .... carrying around guns like they are Al Capone or something. Isn't there a gun law? Aren't those guns supposed to be registered and a person have a permit to carry them? And is that enough? Is there anything else that CAN be done. I wonder if the police are really doing all they can. I said I "wonder".. I didn't say they don't. I don't know. What I do know is that there is something very wrong in "Gothem City" and Batman is no where around. So my real question is what can the average citizen do to feel safe in our own homes? Or to "help" the police do their jobs? Or are we just supposed to just sit quietly, (possibly with a gun nearby) and hope that it all goes away before someone we love is gunned down?

Delete me if you want to but I have a right to my feelings and opinions just as much as anyone else and I have a right to voice them.
