Is anyone going to skip the cooking trouble and have dinner at a restaurant? After my mother died, we started eating out on thanksgiving. I have never like Shoneys. But, the last few years we have had thanksgiving dinner at Shoneys. The meal is actually very good. They have the bar stuffed with thanksgiving favorites. The meal also comes with a pumpkin pie slice. It is surprisingly good.

I noticed the Cracker Barrel also has a thanksgiving meal with a slice of pie, drink, for 8.99. A friend of mine works there. She said last thanksgiving they were absolutely PACKED out all day long.

I know Ryans will also be serving a thanksgiving dinner.

Just curious as to who breaks from the norms and goes out?

I used to work in restaurants, and I hate it for the people that have to work Thanksgiving Day. While the majority of Americans (including the restaurants' executives) are off celebrating with their families, the minimum wage earning employees have to go in and serve others. Go go go Almighty Dollar! I expect that we will see restaurants open on Christmas Day within the next 5 years.

And don't equate this with medical professionals that work on holidays, they are providing an invaluable service to their communities. Ensuring that consumers have a sausage biscuit on Thanksgiving morning is a convenience, not a necessity.
For the first time ever my family is not doing a traditional thanksgiving meal on thanksgiving this year. Instead the Hubby and I are taking our kids with us to do volunteering. There are many who don't have any option except to sit and hope someone brings them a meal. This year my family will be delivering those meals to them. We are really excited and looking forward to what hopefully will become our new family tradition.
