I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week, we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table ...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days. the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now let's see . .. our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing five families: you have to wai t six hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child's second grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaing in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

I agree we must do something about illegal immigration. I do not want to be mean or unneccessarily hostile to any person who comes here just to try and make a living. The level of hostility is growing every day. How do you tell the difference between a legal or illegal immigrant? By looking at them? All I warn against is this growing hostility towards those we perceive as illegal. They may just be hard working individuals trying to provide for a family. Take care of the hostile rhetoric.
It's not my job to tell the difference between the legals and the illegals. It is my government's job and they are failing miserably.
I can understand why someone would want to come here and "actually work" to better their family. I have no problem with that. But if you are here illegally, just soaking up the freebies courtesy of ALL American people, then you should be dealt with. And by dealt with I mean deported and made go through the proper channels to come here. I think it's a slap in the face to Ellis Island and it's history to allow this and a slap in our face that illegals can openly break the law and get away with it. I believe our government is making a huge mistake in blurring the lines between legal and illegal. But I will say this, we do need to be careful and not let this become a hate issue. It is simply a matter of right and wrong, not neccesarily good and bad.
The problem, O-jerk, is that people are not trying to "tell the difference". They are painting with a broad brush and villifying EVERY hispanic, even those who work at local restaurants, as illegals. With the local KKK members having rallies on the courthouse steps and the level of rhetoric rising every day I am concerned we are looking at a new era of violence or hostility.
mean, I understand.

But.

Those people coming here looking for work are undercutting americans doing the same thing. they diminish wages of hard working americans. They take good jobs, such as truck drivers, cooks, warehouse workers, factory workers, and construction labor that used to pay decent wages and benefits to Americans.

This is not about hatred or racism. it's about arithmetic. More poverty=less prosperity for americans. And we are importing poverty by the millions of people! it's unsustainable.
