“Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”-----  Alexis de Tocqueville

"Democratic" and "socialist" are mutually exclusive words and neither will lead to utopia because the ignorant and greedy voter never heard of another de Tocqueville admonition:

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.”

I might also note that the US could join the Venezuelan "democratic socialist utopia" in a few short years. The federal debt is expected to grow by about 10 trillion dollars because of welfare freebies if the CBO's  assumptions are correct and we continue the Ol'bama economy. I guess we should all plant socialist surrender gardens.
