Image may contain: cloud, sky and outdoorA staple to Muscle Shoals and Shoals area people were greatly disappointed when it was announced that the Donut shoppe was being close account of Duncan Donuts purchasing the building.  My wife told me that the original owners were so impressed with the amount of sentiment from local citizens about how they would be missing the donuts that they have decided to reopen and bring their product back to the area.  The question is where but at least now we know there is the desire to re-establish the business.  I had heard that the Florence Mayor had made several attempts to talk the owners into moving to Florence so it's possible that other locations made ovations toward them as well and offered them benefits and offers to entice them to choose their area.

Initially I had thought maybe the Publix center down the road in Muscle Shoals but whoever it is I'll be glad that they will be available yet again.

Why the rave over donuts to begin with. the obesity problem here and the sugar consumption is a major cause of a lot of health problems. I just don't get it. there is way more health options Florence should be promoting .

Unclepus is right, you people should be eating more roots, herbs
and insects, I'll take care of those naughty sugar things.

I eat my veggies and very little red meat...I don't scarf down sandwiches or pork and red meat slathered with BBQ sauce full of sugar...no fries...etc. I don't think a donut that I will be walking off during the day is going to kill me...so I'll pass on your insects (entirely) and roots (except a few)...and it depends on which herbs you mean...before I pass on those.

Do you have Krispy Kreme donut shops there?

That may be true, in fact I believe I heard in a movie one time (didn't fact check the movie though) that sugar was more addicting than cocaine.  No doubt I consume far too much sugar myself however, and it's a miracle, I'm not overweight but then Crohn's disease and the removal of a good portion of my small bowel has kept me from ballooning up as I most likely should have done over the years.

As for the Donut Shop resurrection (if it happens) I have to admit I loved their chocolate covered doughnuts with the sweet creme, and like Krystals, I don't partake in them very often at all but when a wayward craving hits it's nice to know they are available rather than just a memory.

I just know given my propensity, or inclination, to favor the things that are least beneficial for me I've most likely cut years off my life but by not smoking and drinking alcohol I guess I'll let food be the culprit for my earlier demise.  Besides I could just see sticking to a Mediterranean Diet (Which I do believe is a great diet and good for you) and doing all the other great things to stay healthy along with exercise,  I'd probably get run over (and killed) by one of these crazy drivers that was smoking while they were drunk reaching over to pick up a French fry they dropped while speeding in and out of traffic afraid it was their cigarette that dropped in their lap.

I have a very healthy diet due to the way my parents raised us...but as I said earlier...a donut isn't going to kill me or you.

There you go again with your kind words. You just come in every few days to sour up the place.

Didn't The Donut Shop used to have a location on Florence Boulevard near Helton Drive for awhile?

Not that close. It was in the closed Wendy's location. Sign is still up.

Maybe they could reopen in that building unless there was some electrical plumbing, or structural problem then, that is if they think a Florence location would be better than a Muscle Shoals location.

I don't know that there is any such agreement but often when a business, that is a competitor or would be, takes the place of a business or buys out owners (such as Dunkin Doughnuts)  they have an agreement with a provision that the former owners wouldn't, or couldn't,  open another place, in competition, in the same area or town.  If such an agreement was signed it might not cover Florence.  If there was no such agreement then they could open any location they wanted.
