The military’s backdoor draft

In an action branded a backdoor draft by some critics, the military over the past several years has held tens of thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines on the job and in war zones beyond their retirement dates or enlistment length.

It is not a "backdoor draft". We are a nation at war. This stop-loss rules started the day after 911. Additionally, no one has been drafted since the draft ended in 1973. It states in ALL military enlistment and commissioning contracts that in times of national crisis, war, etc. the President, being the commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces can modify enlistments based upon operational needs.

Additionally, prior to 911, with all the deployments to Bosnia and the like, operational tempo was heavily tracked, where if you were deployed a certain amount of time in a 1 year period, a service member could receive X-number of dollars over regular pay. This was done by Congress/Senate in order to force the military to track OPTEMPO better. This rule was rescended immediately on 12 SEP 2001.

"Backdoor draft" is just an uneducated, shrill slogan by the anti-war left crowd, who wouldn't know anything about it because the vast majority of them have never served.
