So what is the harm in perusing alternative, homeopathic or "natural" remedies and cures for whatever ails ya?

Have any of you ever tried acupuncture? Ever visited a chiropractor? Colon cleansing? Home childbirth? Do you buy into the anti-vaccine hysteria? How about faith healing?

What's wrong with fearing the coming apocalypse or heavy metal toxicisty?

Do you decorate your house using Feng Shui? What could possibly the the harm in THAT?

what is more amazing than that is there have NEVER been ANY medical mishaps of any kind in 'traditional' medicine. Who'da thunk it?

Sarcasm aside, the point of the website is to demonstrate that a "belief" in something without evidence can, in fact, harm you. There is ample evidence that medical science actually does work most of the time.

I take it you are heavily invested in alternative medicine?

Yes and I love him! I have recommended him to several people who also love him! One instance I went from laying on the floor due to my lower back "going out" to being able to move about however I pleased all from a 30 min adjustment. Pain medication would not have fixed my problem because my hips were out of alignment.

Hi all,

The one I use the most and find indispensable is the Blue Letter Bible web site: Link

This site gives you books of the Bible in about 14 different translations -- or you can view a specific verse in all those translations, side by side.

It provides Strong's Concordance and a lot of commentaries -- and much, much more info.

A great site to do Bible study and for writing.

So, it's not in the medical theme -- but, it is spiritual medicine for me.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Wow. Thank you Salty.
My grandmother has recently (last 6 months) been diagnosed with Alzheimer's & demensia.
I'm checking this web site out now!

Hello Fire,

What you describe is "physical therapy" and not necessarily chiropractic care. In fact, if a chiropractor calls it physical therapy, he is in violation of the law. Only licensed physical therapists can do real Physical Therapy. He can, however, perform "spine manipulation."

(disclosure: I have been to chiropractors in the past as well until I learned more about their practice)

Yes, someone trained in back-cracking can provide relief. In fact, IF DONE CORRECTLY, CPs can perform similarly to PTs for lower back pain . The problem is that chiropractors call themselves "doctors" so people think they attended medical school when, in fact, a chiropractor doesn't even have to graduate high school.

They cross far over the line when they insist that regular weekly visits can cure all sorts of diseases (including cancer) or claim that the spine is "the key to health." They cross the line when they insist that you bring you child - even babies - in for regular "preventative" adjustments. They are, in fact, no more than a masseuse that wears a lab jacket to make him look doctorly.

An excellent article on the subject here: Link

I'm not discrediting your post-only defending my chiro. He did graduate with his doctorate and he only encourages me to come in when I feel necessary. He knows that I know my body and I know when to come in. I did go to another chiro once (mine is an hour away) and he did want me to come in weekly for "preventitive" maintenance-I never went back. My chiro also has a massage therapist and physical therapist on hand for any other treatments needed.

I perform a colon cleansing ritual every morning. It's very therapeutic.
I've had a Chiropractor "adjust" me and it worked. I had acupuncture done to remove a wart and it worked - but I also sold a wart on my hand to an old man for a nickel and that worked too so who knows.

I have lower back pain and I am giving my dr a chance to fix it. If he doesn't give me some relief (I don't take pain meds so it has to be physical relief) soon I will find a good chiro.

Some things work some things don't. I'm not cleansing my colon and I'm making sure my children get their immunizations but I won't discredit all alternative medicines either.

I have a friend whose son has autism. She recommends asking your doctor for immunizations WITHOUT preservatives - especially for boys. They can be special ordered for you. Since not much is known about the causes of autism, I don't see what taking this precaution would hurt.

My friend has written several pamphlets on autism which doctors in her area print and give to their patients so she is well researched.
Feng Shui is mostly about arranging furniture and other things. I was wondering how that could possibly be harmful.

"Stabbed to death
November 21, 2004
The neighbors both believed in feng shui, but didn't get along with each other. When one put a mirror on their house to reflect bad luck, the other did the same and the feud escalated. The argument ended up in the street with one person dead. "

It would have been so much better if the two mirrors caused an infinity tear in the fabric of the universe and sucked them into it.

But I will settle for the idea that they were both so ugly that the infinity of ugliness they had to look at caused them to go insane.

I don't think I will get out of bed tomorrow, the feng shui in my house is awful, I may not make it out alive.

I felt really sorry for that poor John Doe. He did about all those things and got the shaft every time.

My daddy taught me to learn at least one new thing a day. My lesson for the day is not to stand too close to John Doe.
Here are 100,507 people who were harmed by someone not thinking critically.

From the article about herbal remedies. Common sense goes a long way in preventing the deaths attributed to the various cures. I use echinacea to help my immune system ( I rarely have even a cold) and ST. John's Wort is approved in Germany (and other countries) for the treatment of mild to moderate depression.
Do your own research and think a little.
